Business description (provided by the business owner):

I am a Certified ISR Instructor and I teach children 6 months to 6 yrs how to survive in the case of an aquatic incident. All lessons are individualized and one-on-one.

Infant Swimming Resource is the first and only drowning prevention strategy that has earned a 100% safety record. ISR is a truly comprehensive infant swimming education and self-rescue instruction method.

A student who is crawling (approximately 6-8 months) to about 15 months will learn how to hold his or her breath underwater and to rotate unassisted from a face-down position in the water to a back float. The baby will maintain a float until someone rescues him or her. It typically takes 4-5 weeks for a child this age to learn the necessary skills.

A child who at least 15 months old and is walking will learn a swim-float-swim sequence. The student will learn to swim with his or her face down in the water, roll back to a float and be able to maintain the float while s/he rests and breathes, then flip over to the stomach again and swim. The child will continue this sequence until s/he reaches the side or steps to safety. It typically takes an average of 4-6 weeks for a child this age to learn the necessary skills.

I have been amazed at how well my child has learned survival skills and swimming skills from the ISR lessons. After all it is only 10 minutes a day, but WOW very effective which were put in to use in Jan 2010 (he was 2 years/10 months old)...I was out of town for work so my father was at the house with my child. I have attached a description of what happened.

Last week it was colder than all get out down here, in the twenties with a bright sun and no wind. I had the bright idea to let Thomas and Jasper play in the yard while I trimmed some of the plants, my daughter has a big swimming pool, unheated of course. Well, I'm working away while keeping an eye on Thomas and the puppy. They are on the other side of the pool from where I'm working. I hear a splash, turn and Thomas is jumping in after Jasper. And they are in the deep in, so I dive in and Jasper is swimming and Thomas had turned in to his float. All three of us were about frost bit by the time we got in the house. Thomas now looks at the pool and points and tells me, "Poppa, COLD!". neither he or Jasper have offered to do a repeat performance....

By the way, before you think I neglect Thomas, he can swim like a fish....

I am so thankful Tommy had taken ISR. I highly recommend them to anyone with a small child.

I highly recommend ISR to everyone with a child 6 mos or older who cannot swim. And, I cannot say enough about Ilise Kohliter's skills & professionalism as an Instructor. She worked with my daughter at 11 mos to learn how to turn over and float should she fall in water, and again at 22 mos to swim/float/swim until she reached safety. People were amazed at my daughter's skills when they saw her in the water and would always question or comment. Being a former Swim Instructor, I understand the unique training, difference (compared to other programs) and value the ISR model brings. Nothing can replace the lifesaving skills she has learned. It's worth every penny!

Ilise Kohleriter taught my son Jeremy Minsky using the ISR method the summer of 2007. Jeremy was 2 1/2 years old. By this time I had known Ilise as a friend for almost 8 years. About 6 of those years I had heard her rave about the ISR approach and how it helped her own children learn to swim and become safe in the water. I was always skeptical. I wondered if it was developmentally appropriate to teach such a young child to swim on their own. However, when our family moved in to a house with a swimming pool and I saw my youngest son Jeremy fall in to the pool about 1/2 a dozen times I knew I needed to look seriously in to the program. The program is a structured approach to not only teach the children how to swim and float in the water, but most importantly how to manage themselves if they fall in to the water (from any direction) or find themselves stuck in the middle of the pool with out any help. Ilise had recently been through the intensive training program for the ISR swimming method. She worked with Jeremy one on one for a 10 minute period of time 5 days a week.. She would check Jeremy’s body temperature to ensure that he was not too fatigued during the lesson. She would speak to him in a soft, even voice, encouraging him throughout the lesson saying “great Jeremy”. She was never deterred by his whining or crying. She always assured me that the whining was short term. And it was. She also assured me that they typically cry when they start learning something new. And it was true. If she needed to take a moment to give Jeremy a hug she would. I always enjoyed hearing her encourage Jeremy. My older kids would imitate Ilise when we practiced his swimming and floating at home saying “good boy, Jeremy!” The commitment for the parent is extensive. 10 minutes every single day while balancing the schedules of my other children. But I surprised myself. Throughout the 10 weeks that he learned with Ilise I never minded the commitment. And the reason is clear- every day I saw Jeremy become a more independent swimmer than the day before. The last few days Ilise had him in the water with his clothes on. I was amazed how she would tumble him in to the water and he would immediately float on his back and then swim to the side. All this and he wasn’t even 3 years old! I am grateful that Ilise introduced our family to ISR.

I highly recommend Ilise to teach any child how to swim using the ISR swimming method. She is very knowledgeable and experienced in teaching this method in a supportive and loving manner with children
