Would Moving to Corpus Christi, TX Be AWESOME or AWFUL?

Hello,
There is a small possibility that my husband will get a promotion in Corpus Christi, TX. I'd love to hear from people who live there or have lived there. We have to first figure out if it would be a good place for me to continue my studies, as I plan to complete a Master's degree in the next couple years. Other than that, what type of life would we expect down there? We have both lived in the Upper Midwest our entire lives. We still have snow on the ground, and it will only reach the mid-30s in temp today, so you can see why a move to the south seems appealing right now.

Some of my specific questions are: What are schools like for elementary through high school? What cities or suburbs outside of Corpus Christi are desirable? We have always lived in the city, so we have no problem with living in Corpus Christi proper.

Finally, I worry that we won't fit in at all for being too liberal. Is this silly?

Thanks in advance for any information.

What can I do next?

If your husband does get the promotion, it should be a time of making the most of it no matter what kinds of conservative people may be around you or what ever challenges you may face.

At one point I thought I wanted to live in Atlanta. I went to visit a few times at different times of the year and discovered that although I love the warmer weather, I was highly allergic to something in the air and was having a very difficult time physically because of the allergies.

Long story short you never know what to expect but just make the most of it which is what I ended up doing spending 1 week there with all of the iching, runny nose, watery eyes, head aches that come with nasal allergies. Had a great time in spite of the allergies.

It is a beautiful, clean city. Don't worry about fitting in. There are conservatives and liberals everywhere. I'm sure you will find people who are like-minded. Also, many of my closest friends are on the complete opposite spectrum politically.

I lived in ND and MN my entire life until I turned 29, and we moved to San Antonio, TX for work relocation purposes. It's not Corpus Christi, but we have been there several times. I have always liked it. The weather is great, although each time I have been there it has always been really windy. I have several friends who work for the school district and they ahve all had good things to say. That being said, the main district has a website: echalkweb.ccisd.us. You can do some research there to find out about specific schools.
As far as being too liberal, my husband and I are very liberal, and we often find ourselves not talking politics with our friends, just beacue it is easier to avoid the argument. That beings said, we have never felt like we need to hide who we are.
We do love it there, and visit a couple of times a summer. I first went there for a Middle School Conference, and was impressed by the people and the city! Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about moving cross country, or TX as a whole. :-) It will be great to have another "Notherner" in the state!

Might not seem as appealing come August when you can fry an egg on the sidewalk.......

Not saying it's not a great place - I grew up in Aransass Pass TX and still love to visit, but it's a lot different than the Upper Midwest.
