Since my "go-to" person is no longer able to help me with this question, I figured I'd ask here. When is the best time to start my garden seeds indoors for the North/Eastern US?

I should mention that I've saved my seeds from last year's harvest and don't have packets to look at.

What can I do next?

If you look on the back of the package of seeds they usually have a chart with the climate zones on the USA. It should also tell you when they can be started inside. Otherwise buy the seeds at a nursery and ask the employees. I usually buy mine at Walmart and they don't know anything about what they sell.

Depends on what you are planting......Cold tolerant plants such as cabbage, greens, broccoli, brussel sprouts etc can be planted outside in late March because they are frost tolerant, so count backwards from then. Other plants like tomatoes and peppers we don't put in until the 3rd week of May, so we count backwards from then. Figure 10 days on average to germinate and another 4 weeks or so of growing inside before you transplant outside.

your local cooperative extension is a great resource for gardeners, they are knowledgeable about your county and the various climate, soil, pest conditions etc for your area, including last frost dates etc.... im on long island, im gonna do my tomatoes in a week or 2, i saved them from seed for the first time last season, cant wait to see what comes up
