Where to Plant Tulips?

Tulips like full sun. Tulips are tricky for us in North Texas because the bulbs will rot with too much water, and most of us water-water-water during the summer. If you want to keep the bulbs in the ground, then you must let the greens remain after the blooms has fallen off and let them die back; this is how the bulb gets food for dormancy. Then the bulbs need to be left alone, with only occasional watering and the ability to get completely dried out in-between waterings.

Tulips need a considerable period of winter chill in order to come into bloom each year. Your climate may not be cold enough – you can quickly ask at a local garden center. Even gardeners who have the right temperatures don't always keep tulips after they bloom once – they are put on the market at their peak, and the next year's bloom is usually diminished, if it happens at all. Many folks dig out the bulbs after bloom, when the leaves begin to dry out and look unsavory, and plant new bulbs the next year.

Plant them where they will get sun and where the ground is not so wet the blubs will rot.

Tulips like the sun mostly. They should come back each year but not always. They don't last long, maybe two weeks. Plant them around your mailbox or in the front yard where they will receive the most sun and then hopefully they will come back each year. Tulips are my favorite!

Tulips grow fine in our area. They need full sun to partial shade. Know that every other year you will need to dig up the bulbs and separate them. Bulbs reproduce fast in our soil.

Plant them where they will get more than just morning sun.
