Where Do You Advertise for Your Daycare?

I run a licensed in-home daycare, and I was wondering if there were any other moms who did the same, and could tell me where they advertise. I have a business listing on mamasource, I had done the Craigslist thing, and I have a listing on Sittercity. Oh, and DCFS has put me on their list of licensed providers, but that was only recently, so nothing has come of that yet.

So daycare moms, where do you advertise, or working moms, where have you found your daycare?

I run an in-home preschool program and advertise in many different ways. Have you tried putting flyers out yet? You could hold an open house and possibly get a few kids from that. Care.com and daycarematch are good places to advertise as well. I also advertise on the same sites that you have listed above. Please feel free to email me for more information. I'd be glad to help. I've done home day care for almost 4 years now and most of the families have been through word of mouth, and then a couple through the home day care association. From what I am hearing from others in the association as well as one of my families having a lay-off, the economy really is effecting day cares/home day cares. Would be good to look up if there is a home day care association in your area, since the association is great for networking with other providers as well as providing you opportunities for credit hours. The leaders in our group are excellent with connecting families looking for child care with providers who have availability and it works great on both ends and is free, whereas the families pay a fee for the YWCA's resource and referral database referrals. Lately, there just have not been families looking for care so much though. They are more few and far between. Sure hope this economy picks up soon! Best wishes to you!

Do you have a website for your daycare? Having a web presence, especially daycares, will help your bottom-line. In having a website, you'll be able to advertise online easier and faster... and opens up a lot of other doors. I am a website developer/designer as well as assist with online marketing. I have owned a child care center and have over 10 years all together from working in the baby room to being the director. If you taking State funds then most of your clients are prob.coming through DCFS. I advertised in the newspaper, on the radio, did target adds where they are only on during times when the people I am trying to reach are listening, like during the times kids are getting picked up from school and when parents are usually going to or from work....not one person came from it. But having my name on the list at DCFS got me nearly every one of my families. Also, the resource and referral agency's did sent me a couple. They don't really advertize either so I didn't get many from them.

You should have a local home care provider group. As Part of your stars program you get added benefits from being a member of that type group. Or for your accredidation. I can't remember which at this hour. Anyway, you can brainstorm with the other owners and find out what is going on in your neighborhoods and what is effecting your businesses. As a Director I attended the local Directors organization and we were able to pass on information too. For instance, if a family left me because they owed their co-pay and they were trying to get in another center, If another Director mentioned a family to me and said something like "The Blanks toured my toddler room the other day, I didn't know they were leaving you" I might say something like "Oh, THAT family"...we weren't saying anything derogitory or anything but conveying a message anyway.

The people I was trying to get to come to my business didn't take the paper, they were busy trying to find money to buy milk and diapers, they didn't have extra money for the newspaper. Most people turn the dial on the radio when the music goes off, they don't listen to the adds.

Try getting your flier to the local Employment office. Laundry mats, Wal-Mart bulletin board if they still have one there, check your local sign ordinances and put out signs, like for a garage sale signs but advertising the business. See if some local businesses that cater to children, like a dance studio or gymanstics place has a bulletin board. What about one of those vinyl signs we see around the fences at sporting events, like soccer. Put a nice size sign in your yard. Make sure your phone numger is large enough that a car going by can see it easily, what about getting an advertisement on a bus bench? Family owned small restraunts, anywhere there are business card drawings put yours in, when someone wins one of the radio contests the stations here announce it on the radio every little bit "The winner to our ......contest was ...who own little kids home day care over on ....st." I can't think of anymore, it's 5:20 am here and my brain is tired. Go free as much as possible. Don't pay for advertising. Poor people aren't going to be reached by anything right now. Too many people are out of work and just not looking. It is sad but it may get worse before it gets better.

I also run a small home daycare in Buffalo Grove, not far form you. I am also having trouble finding new clients!! I wonder if the economy is part of the problem. There seems to be so many more moms looking to do daycare than there used to be. I have been doing home daycare for nine years, I have never had this much trouble. I advertise in the same places to advertise. I am only looking for one or two more kids, but have been looking for a while. It is frustrating! Good luck. Nora P posted a large list of directories a few years ago, but make sure to also register with Google Places and Bing Places - each of these will rank you on page 1 of Google Bing and Yahoo search results respectively (Bing and Yahoo are the same).

I have done home daycare for almost 7 years now. When I was getting started, I had to advertise in the papers. It was quite costly, but it netted me all of my first families. Now that I am established, I am on sitter city and sitters.com. I am also on Care.com and have had great success there. The families seem to respond back more on that site. I think word of mouth is going to be your best bet to get people coming to you. However, with the three sites that I just mentioned, you can look for families that will fit into your program. As for DCFS, I think I've had 2 calls from them the entire time I've done daycare. Some of my other friends who live in other suburbs get more calls. I've never done the craigslist thing....it sort of wierds me out. But I do have one friend who gets tons of interviews off of that site. I'd also look in your area to see if there is a daycare organization. You may be able to post something if they have a website.

A good place to advertise your daycare is on bulletin boards in your city that may be located at coffee shops, grocery stores, the library, convenient stores, and laundromats.

I am not sure which county you reside in. But each county has a Child Care Resource and Referral which has a parent resource department. The CCRR keeps a database of providers they refer paretns to who are in need of day care providers. The CCRR for Dupage and Kane county is in Glen Ellyn, IL. You can call them at 630/790-3030. If they can't assist you they can refer you to the correct CCRR. Hopes this helps.

I have put flyers in mailboxes and on public bulletin boards. I have been doing in home day care for 5 yrs. and have been having a hard time finding families.
