Hi H.-- Just read your post and if the little one is doing some serious climbing it probably is a good time to move him. We moved my son around the same time and he did really well. The only issue we had was that he is tall for his age so he didn't really fit the toddler bed very well so we ended up having to get a twin bed just a few months later (extra $$$). If you are worried about him falling out of a bigger bed and hurting himself there are several different rail systems available. We bought convertable cribs for both kids and my daughter's is now set up like a day bed and at 2 1/2, is still comfortably sleeping in it(we did away with the crib for her around 20 months). We probably won't have to get her a bigger bed until spring. We also let them pick out one set of character sheets to celebrate the big move........ It turned out to be a big event for them! Hope everything works out for you, A.

Hi, My name is D. and i have a 2 year old named Landon, we decieded around 15mths that he was ready to sleep in a toddler bed, for us it was a very easy transition. The first few nights there was the occasional cry due to hime falling out but once a week went by it was smooth sailing. He loves being able to walk into his room and climb into bed, he even pulls up the covers. I think its a personal choice for every child and parent, but i don't think its too early to try. GOOD LUCK

You could go ahead and put him in a toddler or twin bed and just buy one of those safety rails to keep the baby from rolling out of it during the night. You can get them at Walmart for about $12.00 in the baby section. I did that for my daughter and it was wonderful!

I have a soon to be 4 yr. old & an almost 10 month old & when my oldest was a couple months shy of turning 2 is when I turned her crib into a toddler bed & she did great. But she wasn't a climber, & she slept late so I was always up before her & knew when she got up she'd come to me. But it's totally a decision that u have to be compfrtable with & if ur not then it's not time.

this is the age when i moved my little guy to his toddler bed he had one of the transitional beds that had chest of drawers with changing table on top connected to his baby crib. cute bed changed into toddler bed easily! he was climbing on his baby tad to the changing table thank god he never went any further! imagine my horror as i heard his sweet voice from monitor one morning clapping and saying yea! only to go in and find him standing and dancing on top of it! we had toddler bed by naptime that day!!!!! my concern was he would escape his room in the middle of the night to get himself into more trouble. i'm hard of hearing and obviously he's very adventurous so i used a hook and eye on door ONLY when i was sleeping AND a baby monitor i used his same bedding for sometime and kept same bedtime routines and he did very well. your pediatrician will tell you if they can climb out or trying to (no matter what age) get them closer to the floor!!! good luck!

My son would do a pullup, lean over and flip out of his bed giving himself a bloody nose when he was almost 11 months. He was too small for a toddler bed so we put the crib mattress on the floor with some pillows around the edge of the mattress. That way if he rolled off of the bed he'd just roll down the pillow onto the carpet. I know it's ghetto, but bloody noses are nasty.

Good luck, J.
