My daughter is 14 months and only wants to eat baby food or junk food. I try to feed her what I eat and she doesn't want it. Puts it in her mouth then spits it out. She also doesn't drink out of a sippy cup yet. She will drink out of a reg cup, but of course I have to watch so she doesn't spill it. What do I feed her???

What can I do next?

Keep giving her the foods you eat. She will develop a taste for them over time.

Feed her things like strawberries, and other fruits, cut up of course. My little ones always liked canned pears, and they are nice and soft, too. Vegetables like sweet potato, mashed potatoes, finely shredded chicken breast, cooked carrots, vanilla yogurt, scrambled eggs, etc.

If you eat foods that are really rich in flavor or spice, she may not be ready for those yet. Make her foods with little or no salt, pepper, etc. Let her learn to appreciate simple foods.

Tomatoes were also always a big hit with my kids.

As for the cup issue, sounds like she is skipping a step. Have you tried the sippy cups with the soft flexible lids? They feel less foreign sometimes. Some kids will drink out of the spill proof, while others won't, perhaps because they are harder to suck the drink out of - they have to suck harder.

Try a variety of differnt kinds of cups and see if that helps, but other than the inconvenience of eagle-eye supervision and help with a regular cup, there certainly is nothing wrong with her using a regular cup instead, if you have that kind of time...

Good luck.
It sounds like she is really developing an independent personlity.
Congratulations. Perhaps she will be president - and show the world her way of doing things is better.

i promise that your daughter won't starve herself. throw out the baby food and the junk food. don't allow it in the house. that way it's not an option. try sweeter veggies to start out, and saltier meats like pork. biologically, human tastes naturally favor salty and sweet, that's why junk foods are so desirable and hard to quit so don't overdo it and certainly don't over salt or sugar foods, but keep it in mind. like having peas and carrots to start out instead of brussel sprouts. you'll probably deal with a few tantrums and she may eat less in protest, but stick to your guns. she will not starve herself.

Don't worry...just keep trying to give her new foods, one day she will suprise you and like it. As for the sippy cup, my daughter just one day refused her bottle and went for the sippy cup...it was the Nuby brand from Walmart that have the top that feels like a bottle. She is almost 3 and still has to have her milk in those at night. But if she is drinking out of a cup that's great. Our dentist said sippy cups were the worst for toddler's teeth and that when you take them off the bottle they should go straight to a cup. So you maybe ahead of the curve there. Good luck.

J.,

I never had that problem my son and nieces and nephews only wanted table food, but I have seen friends put the mash pototoes inside of the baby food contrainers to make them think they are eating the regular baby food, and it did trick them enough to get them to start eating table foods like they are suspoe to. Have u tryed apples and the good finger foods unstead of the junk food for her? and on the sippy cup tryt he cups with lids and a straw, less spills and the littles ones think they are big drinking out of a straw. I hope this helps u out some.Keep me informed on things. Nice to meet u.
Yr friend,

Once you have started the junk food it's hard to stop it. Take all of it out of the house. Steam baby carrots, or dice them, green beans out of the can, sliced peeled apples, peaches, bananas, steamed brocoli, diced cheeses,
home made puddings, milk, juices, diced steamed chicken, all good finger foods for toddlers. Avoid canned and processed meats.

Pre-packaged baby food almost all has sugar added to it. Sounds like she has developed a sweet tooth.
Tell her she can have a little bit AFTER she eats a meal of real food. Make it dessert.
Same with the junk food. She can have a little bit AFTER a real meal. Use it as a treat.
No meal, no treat.

As for sippy cups, my daughter hated them, but couldn't quite handle an open cup without spilling it. So I got plastic lidded coffee travel cups with handles and stuck a straw in the opening that you would normally sip the coffee from. She had no difficulty learning to drink through a straw.

I know how you feel, I have twins that are 14months. They are so picky about what they eat. Just keep trying real foods. My girls didn't like mashed potatoes, but I just keep giving it to them. They eventually decided to like it cause I was going to feed it to them anyways. My girls love mac n cheese, it's their favorite right now. I had a major problem with sippy cups for a couple of months. Try the silicone topped ones. There are several different ones. I've got all of them, I have just about got every kind of sippy cup there is trying to get them to use them. We don't do bottles any more, but we still use the silicone sippy cups of nap time and night time. I still can only fill their day time cups about half full, because it tends to be to heavy. Just be consistent in anything that you do. I know it's hard, these girls are #3 & 4 for me. It will get easier, they all learn at their own pace. Good luck!

Your baby may just be one of those picky eaters so try different things also try to cut out the junk food I have a godchild who only believes in cheetoes for breakfast, dinner, supper, and anything in between. Believe me I know its easier said than done I have five children and two godchildren. As for the sippie cup you may not beable to give her a choice she must learn there are sometimes she must use it and sometimes she may use a regular cup. I know this will be hard I have the same problem with my godchild but she eventually learned Nanny has rules and she will push but don't give in and she is only two.
