What to Do When 2 Yr Olds Climb Out of Their Crib?

Okay, so I'm asking this for my sister... She has twin 2 yr old girls. They both climb out of their cribs now. But here's the problem... because of the small size of their house, they share a room w/ their older brother (4). They will have to get bunk beds and put the boy on top, one girl on bottom and the other in a toddler bed. BUT... one of the twins is a CLIMBER to the fullest extent of the definition!!! How will she be able to keep that one (and the other one who follows) off the top bunk? If she takes the ladder down, what if her son has to go potty in the middle of the night? If he just climbs down the side of the bed (not safe), the little girlies will see him and most likely copy him...

Hm... anyone? Anyone?

=] Thanks, K.

What can I do next?

What about using a trundle bed-which is a regular twin bed and has another bed that pulls out under it so it wouldnt to much climbing(up high atleast) i also watched on of those nanny shows where their kid was a climber so they had to discipline the kid by taking toys away when they climbed on stuff that they werent supposed to. they also put up signs saying no climbing on stuff like shelves so that they knew they what they werent supposed to climb on

I suggest that you get them both a toddler beds until they are old enough to have bunk beds

My advice would be to buy two todler beds. They don't cost very much and are pretty small. Sometimes you can find them cheap at a yard sale and you can use your existing crib matress

I would just take the crib mattresses out and put them on the floor along side each other. If there isn't room for regular beds right now, another option would be to convert the cribs to beds (if they are the type that can have one side removed to do this. Sorry I'm not more help, but good luck. :)

Yeah, I would go for the mattress on the floor thing. We did that for a while. We had two girls and had our neice move in with us also. Three girls under 4 years!!! So, we had one twin bed and two crib mattresses. One crib mattress slid under the twin bed during the day or we would stack the crib mattresses. They still jumped on the crib mattress but I thought it was better than a trip to the E.R. They were fine after a year and were ready for a bunk bed with no problems.

Maybe she could get 2 twin beds and put the girls in the same bed against the wall on one side and a toddler rail on the other side and then her son wouldn't have to be in a top bunk. When my son was 18 mos I could NOT break him from the bottle at night until I put him in the BIG bed with his sister (she was 2 1/2)and when I did that he forgot all about the bottle so I know it will work with 2 in the same bed. :) Good luck to your sister.

I have a 5 year old boy and an almost three year old boy who share a room. The almost 3 year old has been out of his crib since he was almost 2 and on the bottom bunk. Of course he wants to climb to the top bunk, (and can without falling) but I tell him that our bed isn't a toy and that has seemed to work for him. Maybe they could save the other crib mattress as a "jumping spot" to encourage not playing on the bunks. Then take it away for a day or two everytime they are climbing on the bunk. Best of luck to your sister. C.

Go to Babies R'Us and by a cover for the crib. It is like a Mesh tent that attaches to the top of the crib to prevent the toddler from climbing out. I had a friend with a similar situation, (small living space size) and this worked for them. They were able to keep the toddler in the crib until she was old enough to stay in her bed at night.

Hope this helps!
