What to Do on New Year's Eve with an Almost One Year Old

I'm debating what to do for New Year's Eve. I have a 15 year-old and an almost one year-old. I figure the baby will fall asleep at his normal time, but I'm just not sure if I should chance going over to a friend's house to hang out (just another couple and their 1 year-old) or just stay at home and do a family night and play games with my older daughter. Any suggestions or advice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone for their advice. So, this is what happened. We had hoped to go over to our friend's house and hang out, but we didn't hear from them so we figured they wanted a quiet evening. So, we dropped off my daughter at her cousin's house, stopped by to see a friend's new baby girl, then went over to see a friend's new house. She was having a New Year's Eve party, but we decided to drop off a bottle of wine and go home. We picked up dinner and by the time we got home our son was asleep. We put him in the crib and he slept through the night. My husband and I just had a nice quiet evening to ourselves. We kissed at midnight and went to sleep. :) Maybe next year we will plan on getting a babysitter and do some celebrating.

When we get together for a movie night, fight night, or game night, I bring my portable play yard and a sheet/blanket for my son. We set the play yard up in another room and when it's bedtime, I go in there a few minutes and do our bedtime routine (change diaper, change clothes, sing a song, give him kisses, then turn off the light). He sleeps just fine. When it's time to go home, I carry him to the car and have him in his carseat so he goes right back to sleep while my husband deals with packing the play yard. You CAN still have a life!

I would go to your friend's house or have them come to yours. We always took our daughter out to people's houses for the evening and just put her in her pack n play at bedtime. She would sleep until we were ready to go home and then go to bed when we got there. I am a firm believer that you shouldn't have to be a prisoner in your own home just because you have a child. If there is a separate room where your one year old can go to sleep at your friend's house, then by all means go and have a great time! I am lucky enough this year that my mom is in town visiting and has offered to babysit, but we're going to a friend's house and if my mom weren't here, we would still go and just put my daughter to bed there. Happy New Year! Go have an enjoyable evening with friends. :-)

Maybe your family can get together with the other couple and have a big game night, both of the one year olds can go to sleep and everyone else can play games and celebrate.

We're having a game night with another family. We've done that since our son was born, & we have a great time.

It's a personal preference thing... but we have friends coming here. We got a Wii and I'm sure we'll play that and other board games. It will be low key... wanna come? hahaha

Happy New Year...

if it were me, i'd invite friends over. that way you can be sociable, and you will be in familiar territory if your babe should wake up (or not want to go to sleep at all, haha) and need you with him.

This may not be the answer you are loonking for, but Mommy's Freedom by the Hour is having a lock-in you can drop you children off and pick them up in the morning. This way the kids are safe and entertained no matter what you do. you can call them if you are interested ###-###-####

I would stay home. You could even let your oldest invite a friend over to make it special for her.
