I moved here not long ago and just started having a sitter watch my daughter occasionally. What is the going rate here in the Lexington area? Also, this fall we are expecting another baby and what is the rate for 2 children? I have never had a paid babysitter before so I really have no idea.

My understanding is that the usual rate is minimum wage, but when I was a kid and babysat for one particular family, I made darn sure they received the best care - bc their mom paid me $10/hr plus dinner. Usually, with anyone else who paid me $4 or $5/hr, I let the kids watch tv all night and eat ice cream. Now, once I found someone I knew I could trust, I paid her the same rate - $10/hr. And she is outstanding. So it depends on the level of care you want provided v. your finances. A GREAT place to get a babysitter is ur local church, btw.

Hey B.! When my little sister used to babysit, she charged about $8/hour for one child and $2 per additional child. I don't know if this is still standard, but that is what she and her friends charged. Quite the entrepeneurs!
Good luck!

HI B.,
I have two kids and I pay $8.50-10 and hour. I usually opt for the college kids so what you pay has to compete with what they could make working part time some where else. High School kids may work for the $8/ hr but I have found that most of them have so many extra after school and weekend activities it's hard to get a reliable one. But this may just be my experience. I also understand that MoM's Club (a playgroup here in lexington) offer a sitter referral service to it's members. To be a member you pay $20 a year and you make a lot of friends and socialize your kids. Also some churches have sitter referrals. Hope this helps

The hourly rate is from $6-$10 an hour. It is based on how many children you have so right now in your case it would be $6.00.

We have a nine mo. old daughter and have paid $8-$10 hr. for our babysitter. We've been told, the going rate for two children is $10-hr.
Hope that helps!
