I was wondering just how early a baby's sex can be determined thru ultrasound. With my son and daughter I found out at almost 14 weeks gestation each. I am going for my first ultrasound during this pregnancy in 3 weeks (I think I'll be around 12 weeks).

Congratulations!! Usually by the 19th week you can see the sex of your baby.

Hi Im an ob nurse and I found out with my son at 12 wks 5 days... but that was pure luck... but it can happen.
Congratulations!! I went for my first ultrasound at 12 and a half weeks with this pregnancy. The baby was very cooperative and even I knew right away that we were having a boy! I was so thrilled I about jumped off of the table. We have two girls 3 yr. old and 1 yr. old. Generally I have heard that you cannot really tell until 16-20 weeks. But I think a lot depends on the baby's positioning during the ultrasound. Again, congratulations and best wishes!!
Ive been told that about 4 1/2 months is about the earliest the sex can bre determined. I just found out, at 20 weeks (through sonogram) that I was having a girl. I do have a friend that is pregnant and the doctors couldnt deterine the sex via ultrasound because the baby wasnt being cooperative and they couldnt get a clear shot. The say anywhere between 16-22 weeks, however they normally wait until around 20 weeks. I just went in a week and half ago for my visit at 16 weeks and she told me we would do it next visit. She said they wait until about 20 weeks because they also like to check on the babies insides as they are more developed.
