Want to Know About VBAC Experiences

I'm 37weeks pregnant with number 3. I had a vaginal delivery 6y/o and a c-section 2.5 y/o due to a breech baby. I'm wanting to do a VBAC with this baby but am starting to feel really anxious about my decision. I see Dr. Ferrara in Plano and she's open to this option. I'm leery of an epidural as the last one I had left me numb for six months in my lower back after delivery. I'm also concerned about my chances of sucess. They should be higher since I have had a previous vaginal delivery, my babies are small (around 6lbs), and my last c-section was due to breech and not any other medical reason. But, if I'm not sucessful, then I've posed more risk to my baby and if anything went wrong I just couldn't live with that. So, I'm looking for some realistic input and experience on this issue because the statistics I'm reading and info from my dr. are not helping me to trust my instincts.

I had my oldest naturally and my twins c-section cause they were breech. With my youngest I had a vbac without an epidural. Although I wish I had an epidural, I just labored faster than everyone thought. The whole thing went well. But you can only do what you fell comfy with.

My first daughter was born by c-section, she was breech. I am 20 wks pregnant right now and asked my dr about a vbac, he automatically told me i would have a c-section again, he said there was a 10% chance that if i did a vbac that the incision on my uterus could tear because of the pressure and if that happened my baby would be born dead or have serious mental problems. I know 10% is small but im not even chancing 1% so I decided to go ahead with the c-section. I could not live with myself it something did happen and why risk it if i could have a c-section and my baby be born without complications. Good luck with your decision, mine was easy but I know alot of moms would have a vbac.

R.,
There have been others on this site with the same question. If you go to the category section and click on Pregnancy and Labor you'll see a bunch of other responses for the past year! It's great to know that you're not alone and that others had the same concerns.

I had a c-section and then a v-bac and I was fine. As with giving birth, there are always risks. My c-section was only 14 months prior to my v-bac, so I'm thinking your chances are even better than mine were!

A friend of mine had a C-section after 26 hours of labor... fully dialated... after pushing for about an hour. Due to complications they had to do an emergency C-section. She got pregnant only 6 months later... and just 2 weeks ago had a successful V-BAC. She went all natural, had a midwife and a doula. 15 hours of labor, and she had her little girl! She said that having the doula there was so helpful because she was all about making sure that she was comfortable... she had SO much support around her.

It really depends on you and what you're comfortable with. I had a C-Section with my first due to failure to progress... and I'm debating the V-BAC for the next one. I can see the pros and cons of both sides... you just have to decide what is best for you.

Hey R.! I know that there are women out there that have had very successful VBAC. I had a C-Section with my daughter due to her being breech. I was due to have my son almost 21 months after she was born. I talked with my doctor, and she told me that the chance is very slim that something would go wrong, but the chance of death in that chance is very high. I didn't want to risk it. I had no complications from my first C-Section, so I decided to have another one. Again everything went great. I actually healed faster with the second one. I guess because I knew more of what to except. Good luck with your delivery and decision!
