Apple sauce can be used in place of vegetable oil in recipies. I have used it successfully in pancakes, cakes, cookies.....
Mamas & Papas -
Hubs went food shopping and got hoodwinked. He bought several large jars of Mott's cinnamon flavored apple sauce for DS. The apple sauce is uber sweet, too sweet, in our opinion for our little boy.
What to do with it? Please send me your favorite recipies which call for apple sauce. We tried making a chocolate chip apple sauce bundt cake (from Food & Wine magazine). Still plenty more sauce to get through. We welcome all your ideas, whether they run sweet or savory
Thanks a bunch.

I didn't read through all the replies so I'm sorry if I'm repeating. When I make banana bread or muffins I sub out most of the sugar and replace w/applesauce. Also, use in it cooking w/pork chops really yummy.
You can use applesauce in soups and stews - like pumpkin soup, squash soup, etc.
Throw some in with chili - who will know it's there?
You can mash it in with sweet potatoes (you can add bananas, too).
You can bake with it.
Use it as filling for crepe suzette, or topping for pancakes or waffles.
You can strain it, spread it out on plastic wrap on a cookie sheet and make fruit leather with it.
You'll use it up in no time at all!
Applesauce makes a great marinade for pork loin, or chops. Throw in some garlic, rosemary, salt and pepper, and olive oil with the applesauce and let it marinade for a few hours.
:)
We make baked oatmeal with it. http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/baked-oatmeal-10000000549... If the applesauce is sweetened, you can probably reduce the sugar in the recipe a bit too.
I also love this bread recipe, which I make in my bread machine, but you could do by hand as well. http://busycooks.about.com/od/breadmachinerecipes/r/apple... Again, if the applesauce is sweetened and has cinnamon you may want to adjust the ingredients in the recipe accordingly.
My son also loves applesauce yogurt. Just mix some applesauce into plain yogurt and you get the sweetness from the fruit instead of buying flavored yogurt.
Well it's not food, but you could make applesauce dough with it. It may be a fun art project with your little one. Typically, people make Christmas ornaments with it, but we have done it and made magnets for the fridge. It smells pretty good.

And if the jars are unopened and you have the reciept, the store will more than likely take it back.
Like the bundt cake there are tons of muffin recipes -even brownie and other cake recipes -that you can sub applesauce in to make them less fattening. I would just Google "Recipes Using Applesauce." Also -use it as a marinade/sauce maker for crock pot pork loin or sweet and sour chicken. Check the sugar grams per serving content as well -it may not have as much sugar as you think in it.
Ultimately, grocery stores and warehouse stores will take unopened food items back -just get him to take the receipt and the unopened jars back and you won't have to worry about using it!
How about still giving it to your son, but mix it half and half with some "no sugar added" applesauce?
Use applesauce in place of sugar or oil in pretty much any baking recipe. Much healthier that way as well.
