I am planning on taking my girls to the American Girl Doll store for their birthdays this year. They will turn 8 and 6 this year. We have never been there and so I am seeking some Mom advice on going. WE are planning a Friday afternoon with the grandmothers, no other children will be going with us. Any tips to having a fabulous time??

What can I do next?

I took my 3 year old there this year and we had a blast! Dress up and make it a fancy day. We did and it was so fun. The lunch was adorable. Be prepared to spend a lot of $$$. Lunch I think was $50 for the two of us. Her doll got a booster seat and a tea cup. she also got to drink pink lemonade for the first time and it was a huge hit.

I have done this twice. First when my oldest was in 2nd grade, and again with her Girl Scout troop last summer (5th grade).

The first time we did the tea, and the second time we did the dinner. We had a great time both times.

The second time we took the train downtown. After a day of walking, we ended up at Navy Pier, and took the bus from their to the American Girl store. Then at the end of the evening we took a cab back to the train.

I will probably get back there again soon with my 7yr old twins. Maybe for their b-day.

Hi J.-

I haven't taken my daughter there yet. However, we did recently go to Navy Pier and I do have one suggestion about transportation. I suggest taking the Metra and then a bus over to the American Girl Store. We used this transportation to get to Navy Pier and although my kids enjoyed Navy Pier, I think the highlight of the outing was taking the train and bus to our location!

I did click on something that's worth reading from another website. (There are 8 comments about taking a trip to the store that seem informative.)

Have a fun time!
