Toddler's First Haircut

My 3 1/2 year old son has had very slow-growing hair. It is beautiful and curly, but has finally reached the point where we really need to get it cut so that it has a little more shape. Does anyone know of someone in South Minneapolis or thereabouts who will both listen to what we want and give him a fun first haircut?

What can I do next?

Ask for Michael at The Chair. He's the owner and he's been cutting my daughter's hair (11 months now) for the past few months. She was born with a full head of hair. He's really good with babies/kids.

Hi! I loved Kid's Hair for my daughter, but for my toddler son I just can't do the "standard" boy's haircut, for which they use the clippers to make his little sideburns look so silly! I brought him there three times and each time I asked for them not to use the clippers, and each time they "forgot" when I stepped away from him for a minute.
So now I take him to Jon Oulman salon in NE. Erin Flavin cuts all of our hair. She loves working with kids, and only charged us 20 for two kids! She gave him a cool little skateboarder haircut instead of the clipper cut. I have to recommend her!

I agree -Kids Hair is great! They have stickers, tvs, suckers, and they are QUICK and GOOD! We have been to the location by Southdale and also the one in the Eden Prairie mall and I prefer the one in EP. Thye have done a better job and there is a play area right outside, so if you don't have an appt, it's easy to wait.

Go to Kid's Hair! They have several locations in the twincities. My daughter had her first haircut and lots more there. I find a girl who can cut great and write her name down and specifically ask for that same person again. Right now my girl left the location we go to so I schedule an appt. with the manager. I figure if there a manager they gotta be good. We've never had a bad haircut or experiance. I've been to three locations Mntka, Eagan, and Eden Prairie. They cost more than a typical little cost cutters or fantastic sams but are well worth it. My daughter has a complicated hair cut many layers and angle's and it needs to be kept up often. They let your child pick a video to watch, or they will blow bubbles and are great with hysterical little one's. They always get a sticker and sucker when they're done and with my daughter's first cut she got a special envelope to save her first clippings. I believe it's about 15 bucks plus tip. I have even tried Fantastic Sams and spendy Cole's Salon's and keep going back to Kid's Hair. Your little one might be afraid since it would be his first time so I would talk about it alot at home and I've heard not to say hair cut because the cut part is scary and hair trim instead. Maybe play hair salon at home before going. Good Luck !

I go to Olive Salon on Nicollet Ave. near downtown...Not a kid place, but Eunice is amazing with both hair and kids and does a fabulous job. She has young kids of her own and so understands how scary haircuts can seem and goes out of her way to make it fun.
