Timeshare - Northridge,CA

We inherited a paid off time share and we are still finding it difficult to make it work.

The timeshare is a week in a Florida 2 bedroom condo, 5 miles from DisneyWorld, and we have RCI membership to be able to switch it for other places. Our challenge is our vacation destinations tend to be elsewhere since we have family and friends in other places and we usually vacation around conferences or life-cycle events and we can't seem to get RCI to match our travel dates or destinations. I have even tried a year and a half in advance to plan some vacation time in another country following a conference we may go to, and still can't find a way to make this click. In the past 4 years we have paid the Florida Timeshare maintenance fees of $625 a year, traded the weeks into RCI weeks, paid the RCI Membership rate (and would have to pay an additional $199 for each week that we are able to switch) but have not been able to get our destination, and their availability to work together. We just found out that the 4 weeks we have now paid for and we were told were stored up, 3 had expired and were told that there is nothing we can do about it, so we have paid into the system but the system doesn't work for us. So we are seriously talking about selling it, with hopes we can at least recoup the money we have laid out, if not what our relatives had invested.

Another bill is due in the coming weeks and we don't think we want to put any more money into this thing, but now our credit rating is connected to it. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

We were suckered into a time share in Williamsburg also and have not been able to use it in 3 years. LOVELY! So we want to sell it, but have no idea how to do it. I don't even care if I don't make any money off of it or get back any of the thousands of dollars I have put in to it, I just don't want to have to pay it anymore.

Why don't you sell the weeks you can't use? That is what my friends do when they have timeshares and can't go that year. Sell them to cover the yearly fees if you can't go.

My husband and I are actually buying his uncle's timeshare this year because he can't go. He won't have to pay his annual fees, and we get a cheap vacation.

I'm sorry- we got suckered into a TimeShare many moons ago too and ended up booting it...

I would sell it..if you aren't using it and can't get it to work for you - get rid of it...you are wasting time, money and energy on something you can't use...inherited or not - it's not working for you - get rid of it!

GOOD LUCK!!

I gave back my timeshare. I didn't recoup any money but at least I no longer had to pay money. I only used it twice and had no difficulty but then the locations were not popular ones.

Have you tried talking with a customer rep to find out if there is a way for you to use the time share. It's a system that may have to be worked in a certain way. It does sound like you've tried everything and I would sell it if I could, if I were you.

Talk to a supervisor or find a location close to you and visit with someone face to face. Tell them you are on the brink of selling and see if they will be more helpful. They will probably try to sell you more properties or convince you to buy more points. Stay strong and firm. Sometimes they can be super helpful and there are tips and tricks to it all that they should share. If they can't get you booked for what you want next year, try to get rid of it. I have to say as a timeshare owner, we have used our a bit but aren't able to use it much these days due to time, jobs, kids schedules, etc. We didn't want the outrageous fees and tried to sell. We've had no such luck. So either way, I wish you the best!

My wonderful inlaws decided to purchase one on a whim and "TOLD" thier 4 children and spouses that they would be pitching in for it. Ugh... $50 a month down the drain for something we do not want. But until their parents figure out that all we are doing is throwing money away we are stuck with it.

I would ditch it if you are able to. My opinion is they are a waste of $.

Good luck

This is exactly why my husband doesn't have his 2 timeshares that he had before we married. They are just simply not worth it. Good luck.
