Hi,
I wanted to thank all of you that responded about a month and a half ago. I was seeking advice for whether or not I should have a chiropracter "adjust" my son for his chronic ear infections. Well, I gave it a shot. Unfortunately, it did not work for us. My son ended up with his fifth double ear infection in the middle of the treatments and the chiropracter said that it simply wouldn't work for us. So, nothing lost in my mind - we gave it a shot. Now we will be meeting with an ENT on the 26th and then looking to schedule surgery for the tubes. I am ok with this decision now that I have tried an alternativel.

Once again, I thank you so much for the advice.

J.

J.: I'm not sure where you live, but if you are in the Hartford, CT area, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. James Batti. We had the surgery at CCMC, but were able to see the Dr. in his Glastonbury office (much quieter and no waiting!)

He put my son's tubes in when he was about 13 mths old. It was the only pair we needed. Worked like a charm, never had another ear infection and his hearing & speech improved. The tubes fell out on their own and the holes closed up just fine when he was about 3.

Good luck!

Before you schedule surgery there are two other things to consider diet and accupuncture.

Ear infections are an indication of food allergies. See a nutritionist to see what foods your child may be allergic or sensitive too. Dairy is usually the culprit but he may be differnt.

The second is accupuncute is AWESOME for kids. Not accupressure, but Accupuncture. My kids tolerate it well.

Best.

I didn't see your first request and I'm sure someone mentioned this, but does your child eat dairy products? These have been found to cause ear infections. You may not even realize he is sensitive to it!

Hi J.,

Since chiropratic did not work before surgery I would suggest the homeopathic route! They could probably tell you what is causing them (most likely a food or drink like milk/formula). Myself as well as my son went to see Dr. Mark Mincolla and his associates in Cohasset MA & it worked wonders. Just a thought! The website is www.maxhealing.com

Hi there - I am not sure if you have them here but in the UK we use cranial osteopaths to help with issues like this. They worked wonders with my son who had problems being in a funny position inside and are quite magical in what they can achieve but I dont know if you have them here. Good luck

Getting tubes put in my sons ears was a saving grace for him, and us. Having him go through surgery was not an easy decision for us, but it was the best decision for him. His hearing was saved because of the tubes. Without them his ears would fill up and he could not hear us. His ear infection drama started at about 4 months old...had his first set of tubes placed at 13months, he is 4 1/2 now and thriving! Good luck, hang in there!

Hi J.

I don't know exactly where things are at for you now, but if you didn't really want to persue surgery, I was wondering if you had tried the homeopathic route? My 15 month old son had chronic ear infections, and I was told of others who'd had success with homeopaty, so I gave it a shot. It's only been about 2 months, but it's the longest he's gone without an ear infection since he started daycare at about 6 months old. Just thought I'd share that with you. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Peace,
S.

Have you considered a nutritional supplement from Reliv as an alternative to surgery? Aside from the risks and the expense, there is discomfort, and the surgery often doesn't work - tubes can fall out too. Reliv International has a fantastic supplement called "Now for Kids" - the science director is Dr. Carl Hastings who was on the team that formulated Enfamil and ProSoBee formulas, so he knows his stuff. He is world-renowned for his work in liquid nutrition, and these products feeds hundreds of thousands of people every day, including 43,000 for FREE thru the humanitarian foundation. I have so many friends whose kids no longer have ear infections or strep or even bad colds because they are on top nutrition. I have tons of friends who got their kids off nebulizers, solved food allergies, and much more. My son had a phenomenal recover from mononucleosis on the adult product (he's a teen so he's not on the kids' products). I'd love to talk more. You can still make your surgery appointment but start the nutrition right away. If you get good results, you can cancel or postpone the surgery. No pressure - just info for you to think over. What a great option!
