I am building a house and have had many people help me. They have watched my kids and hammered nails and lent support. I would like to get thank you gifts for many of these poeple but I'm not sure what to get them. I'm on a limited budget so I can't spend a lot of money, but I would like them to be more than just something bought at the store. Any suggestions would be great!

What can I do next?

Have a housewarming party when the house is done! Invite everyone who helped in any way. Have some food and beverages and just enjoy their company. It doesn't have to be a six course lavish sit down dinner, just a good old-fashioned get together so people can see what they helped build. If you want to be creative, maybe even put some little signs or post-its on things people specifically helped create....such as a sign on a banister that reads "Aunt Susy helped nail me to the wall!" or a note on a couch that says, "Uncle John almost threw his back out carrying me in." Make sure to take a moment and say a little speech to everyone like a toast to thank them for all the work they put in. Consider taking a picture of everyone together or with separate groups of people and than framing it in the entryway to your home with a cute saying to remember the help they gave you. Of course, plain old hand written thank you notes never go out of style and don't cost much either. You are very fortunate to have such great friends and family, best of luck!

How about taking pictures of the people actually doing the helping. Then when the house is finished you can take the pictures to a photolab, or even do it online on your own. (try www.snapfish.com) and you can put those photos into a personalized photobook for each person who helped. This way they will have the gift and photos for memories as well. It will be a treasured gift.

Here is info directly from Snapfish:
4x6 and 5x7 Flip Books, Only $4.99 each, Featuring 5-45 pages,
Spiral bound book, Printed on professional quality photo paper

5x7 Everyday Photo Books: Only $11.99 each, Featuring 20-150 pages,
Die-cut, sturdy paper cover, Cover available in 10 color

There are other prices and photos of the books as well. Just click on "Photo books" on the bottom right of the home page at www.snapfish.com

When my mom added on to her house, she had a big bbq and everyone who helped came and visited and enjoyed their handywork...then in the middle of the party she gave a little public thank you to everyone that helped and then we all carved our name into a board on her deck. It meant a lot to her that we helped and she didn't want to forget our names. And we all considered the bbq our thank you.

Sometimes I think the best "gifts" are simply giving a heartfelt thank you. To make it extra special w/out spending a fortune I would print some photo cards that are appropriate. For example, if someone helped by watching your kids I'd take a pic of the kids holding a thank you sign, print the photocard and then write a special note of thanks inside. I like to point out something about the person that makes special to you. Congrats on the new house!
