Ok if you look back at my posts the past 3 weeks have been nothing but diaper rash/fungus/diarrhea questions. Here is another question for ya'll
So 2 weeks ago we went to the doctor for a diaper rash that never went away. Turned out to be fungus. We have been treating like the doctor said so with an antifungul. Well on top of it he had a nasty diaper rash that bleed, very raw, and just never went away. After more naked time, baking soda baths, multiple diaper rash creams, the rash is now just red patches all over his butt instead of one giant large patch. It's been like this for the past week now and hasn't gotten any better.
The red patches don't look like the fungus and it doesn't seem to be hurting him at all. Just red marks. So I'm a little confused as to what they could be. He was on and antibacterial (now have been off of it for 2 days) for and ear infection. He's on probiotics, vitamins, isn't allergic to anything that i have noticed, stay away from sugar as much as possible, still do naked time. Could if just be residual redness?
It was a yeast infection type fungus. I could just call it that, but I like to call my son Fungus Butt (lovingly of course) We have used lotramin, and we are on a second type because the Lotramin didn't seem to be working. I don't know the new stuff, but it has (looked like) gone a way.
When my first child had really bad diaper rash, my mom told me the things you buy at the stores for think never work ...and they're expensive. She told me to use corn starch. After I put some in the clean diaper, it was a miracle and a lot cheaper. Give that a try and let me know the results for your child.
Fungus is VERY hard to get rid of. And after having it once he will always be suseptable to getting it again. My husband has had a fungal ear infection for months! Nothing the doctor prescribed worked. And antibiotics will make it worse no matter wear it is on your body. And it can spread to other parts of your body.
The only thing that worked for my husband was to go to a local vitamin store and got on herbal supplements for fungal defense.

ask your dr to ask for a compunded mylanta and aquafor, this is what the gave my son when this happened to him. they won't compoud it if the dr doesn't say so, and if you try to do it at home then you will burn out your blender (from experiance)
over the years we have found this to be the best for diaper rash, or excema, or itching in general.....(my son is hyperallergenic)
The mylanta counteracts the acid, the aquafor the skin damage, it healed up his open sores oernight after 2 weeks of air time.
Not all fungus ointments... will work. So then another type of fungus ointment has to be used.
What may I ask, was the name of the antifungal ointment that you used?
There are also different kinds of 'fungus' infections/skin problems. ie: Ring worm, Yeast infections, and others.
And, there are specific 'fungus' creams to use for it. Either prescription or over the counter.
If it were a yeast infection rash... then for us, our Ped recommends one with "Clotrimazole" in it.
If he has Ring Worm... that is HARD to get rid of... and it takes time... this type of fungus... will be shaped in round circular rings/shapes and the inner area of the fungus will be red or scaly and patchy... AND fungus infections are contagious...and can spread....
Take him back to the Doctor... because his "fungus" problem is NOT going away....
Poor little guy.... Sounds like he might have a yeast infection on top of everything else. Go to the drug store and buy a cream you would you and rub on him for a few days. You should see a difference with in 1 -2 days if it is. This is very common in girls and boys esp if you are nursing, so don't feel bad. At least you are finding it now and not prolonging it.
