Starting in Home Child Care

Are you looking to make a business out of it or just babysit some kids on the side for extra money? It might be a real hassle to go the business route. I agree with the other posters about Craigslist and getting the word out!

You could try the Small Business Association website or SCORE. THey have great information about starting and running a business. Then start marketing and getting the word out via friends and family. Until you generate some income you can always create your own fliers and business cards. I hope that helps. Best of luck in your entrepreneurship!

If you are just going to watch a couple of kids besides your own, call it babysitting rather than daycare. Tell all of your friends and family that you are looking to babysit and hopefully you will get a refferal. You can also posts ads (for free) on sittercity dot com, care dot com and craigslist.

i dont know where you are looking and i dotn know what you are thinking but one of my best friends is thinkign of starting one in her shippensburg home - and she is lookign for anotehr person to go into it with - if you are interested you can email me personally: ____@____.com

secondly - if you are going to do it in your home there are difrerent regulatsions - you can do it "undre the table" - but with only a few kids - or you can do it "legally" and register through the state - and then your ratio's will be monitored and your house has to be approved -

but i do know that if you are thinking of starting a "business" wtih another location and multiple employees then you need to have a "director" that has a 4 year teaching degree to get a business started. I am not sure if that is the same if you are going to do a franchise!

I think that you are pretty smart to do this. Try googling if you haven't already, i know i've found some info on this in the past.
Second, I am located in Erie and i know our Coopertive Extension Office has classes that i used to have to take while I was working in a daycare, They also offered some for people doing what you are suggesting. They might be a good resource to point you in the right direction.

One of my good friends, with two kids, was in your situation and started daycare in her home. She loves it. She keeps her ratios low enough not to require registration, but still makes enough money to more that out-do her prevsious salary minus daycare. She does pay taxes on her income, which is a benefit she can give to the parents who use here services, because they can deduct it from their taxes. She feels like she is making a real contribution to her household, while still having time for her kids.

I know my aunt did this as well while raising my 4 cousins, so its definately a good option.
