He is in an inhome daycare right now and while he is learning it isn't by leaps and bounds at all. We live in Spring and I work in The Woodlands, should he be in preschool? Can you reccomend one that is full time?

What can I do next?

Every child learns differently. What do you mean he isn't learning?

My sister had her son at an at home daycare but he aged out at 2. When she put him in a school daycare it was a hard transition. It took 2 different schools to find the one right for him.

If you are happy with the care he is receiving, I would stay where you are. I agree that most 2-year-old programs are more about socializing and listening skills than true "teaching." Northwoods Presbyterina Church (www.northwoods.org) has a preschool with extended care. The teachers have all been there for a number of years, and the classes are small. He may learn more in that kind of setting. Good luck with your decision!

Hi J.-

I'm no expert on early childhood education but from what I've seen with my 2 oldest (one in 1st grade now and the other will start K in the fall), the 2 year old programs at most preschools are focused on learning social skills, listening/following directions and then the basics about colors and shapes. In the 3 and 4 year old programs at the preschools that my children attended they started to follow a basic lesson plan of learning the letters and numbers and some basic pre-reading skills. My son went into K able to read and my daughter is just starting to recognize some sight words and sound out 3 letter words, so she probably will be reading by the fall. I mention all of this because I'm not sure what you are expecting your son to learn at this age. If you feel that he needs to learn social skills and maybe becoming more independent with some things, preschool would probably be a great idea at this age. If you are looking for him to learn how to read early you may just want to start working with him on your own at home because most schools won't be doing that at this young of an age.

If you are looking for a full time daycare/preschool I have been very happy with Kangaroo Forest in The Woodlands.

Good luck,
K.

Hi, I had my daughter in Primrose Pre K (although not in Spring-Woodlands area.) When I was looking I had several choices and narrowed them to Primrose and Kids R Kids. Kids had a waiting list at the time. I loved Primrose, my daughter learned so much and was so well cared for there. She is in KG now and the work is too easy for her. I am not sure every location is as great as ours (Kingwood) but I would definatly take a look at both these schools. Good Luck!

I have my kids 3 (4 in May) and 15 months at First Baptist of the Woodlands. Prices are reasonable and it is wonderful. The learning just happens as it is age appropriate and not forced on the kiddos. My daughter has been there since she was 2 and she loves it. She came from home care as well- it was tough in the beginning but it would be for any child going through a new change. Her teachers were very patient as she adjusted. I live in Spring and teach in the Woodlands!
Good Luck on your search and decision!
