I used to live in Austin. I would say Barton Springs ( it was my all time favorite thing about Austin). It has more variety and is close to other things to do. Hamilton Pool is beautiful; I would go there on a longer trip to the area.

I agree with mama g. Barton springs. Perfect for a short trip. Hamilton Pool is more of a destination.

Hope you all have a great time when you get down here!

You know, we went to Barton Springs last weekend. It was PACKED. It was so packed you could smell the sweat and dirty bodies. It smelled like wet dog. I have never been to hamilton pool, so I can't comment, but we just got back yesterday from the San Marcos river and we had a blast! You can ride the tubes down the river, the river is crystal clear, and San Marcos is a cool little town.

Hamilton pool, definitely! We love it. If you haven't been, check it out online first. You need to be prepared withthe right shoes and nothing too heavy. It is a bit of a walk to get there.

How about Pedernales Falls? Then continue on to Fredricksburg. Shop on the strip. Have dinner on the outside patio at Hondos. Then stay for the live music or go watch the show at the Rock Box. Spend the night at a B & B. Get up and go have a breakfast picnic at Enchanted Rock. Visit one of the several wineries on Highway 290.
