Hi everyone,
I have always gotten great responses in the past and I need your input again.
For about a week I have had severe itching from head to toe. No rash. I do see welts once I start scratching. Has anyone else experienced this or know what it could be? I am about to go crazy with the itching! I have not changed soaps or laundry detergents. I do have a Dr. appt tomorrow.
TIA-J.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just wanted to let everyone know that I went to the DR. and he said it was probably (seasonal)allergy related. After reading one of the responses I did take a Zrytec, yesterday morning, and my itching stopped! So,it was resolved before I went to the DR. but I went anyway. He is sure it has been taken care of but said to continue taking the Zrytec for the next weeek. Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment. :)

I'm voting for dry skin. I've been there and it's very uncomfortable. I used Aveeno Oatmeal soak in luke warm water, then applied baby oil or Aveeno Lotion a couple of times a day. It took about 3 days for it to go away.

Steve Homoky in Plano can help with allergies. He can find out what is causing the itching and treat for it so they don't have the reaction any more. He is awesome. Check out the website. www.acmhealthsolutions.com

You have some great responses here, but also consider that it could be neurological. A couple of years ago I would have pain in my legs and at night they would itch like crazy. I thought we had bed bugs! We bought a new mattress and everything, but still nothing helped. It ran its course after having brain scans and neurologist appts. that were inconclusive. They labeled it peripheral neuropathy-which can be caused by a number of things.

My daughter has had this in the past when she is taking several meds in combination. We always end up in the dermatologist's office. She gets the severe itching feeling, rashes, and welts (like a cat scratched her). Even if something is gently dragged across her skin, she reacts during this "allergic episode." I am impressed with what the other "posters" said! The next time this happens to her I will ask for the liver enzyme test as well as the celiac disease test. This might explain other health issues that she has had over the yrs. Always great advice...thanks everyone!

It sounds a lot like what I've got. For me, it starts with my hands and feet, but at it's worse my whole body itches. Also, I will get welts when I scratch even though I'm not scratching hard enough to cause them. When I first went in for this they tried to do an allergy test on me but since my skin reacted to everything (not necessarily allergic) they couldn't tell. I've had this for 6 years now (don't let that scare you)

For me the dr (allergist) said it was caused by some unknown allergen. They tried a round of steroids to try and knock it out, but that didn't work for me. So I take a Zantac/Zyrtec combo every day to keep it in check. The ZZ combo takes care of it completely, so it really isn't an issue anymore unless I forget to take my meds. I know it sounds bad to have to take meds every day, but it's much better than the alternative!

For me, mine started after I got done breast feeding my 1st child. I feel like it was hormonal or at least hormone induced. I did get a few months relief from it when I had my hysterectomy, but it did come back.

I hope your itchy is more curable!! Good luck and let me know what the dr says!

Hi J.,
I had that a few years ago. It was an allergic reaction- to who knows what. I just took Allergy meds for a while and it cleared right up. And, I've never had it again. I know allergies are quite bad right now- who knows what is growing out there with all this weird weather.
Hope you feel better soon,
R.

It sounds to me like you may have gotten into some fiberglass or something. Have you messed around in your attic? Put in any insulation lately? Anything like that? You could have gotten fiberglass in your skin in other places in other ways, but the attic and installin insulation are the most popular ways. The fiberglass pieces are so small you would never see them or know they are there, it just makes all of your skin itch like crazy. Ant ehn when you itch the fiberglass further irritates your skin and and welts appear. One time, my husband installed insulation in the attic, had the fiberglass all over his clothes and I didn't think much of it and washed those clothes with a full load of other clothes and all of the clothes washed with them got fiber glass in them and made me itch like crazy, Just an idea. I don't have any other suggestions for you.

Please make sure they test your liver enzymes. I've had this problem in the past and that's what it's been. This is because if your liver is having problems filtering toxins, the toxins will come out through your skin, causing the itching - your skin is your body's largest detoxification organ.

If it is your liver enzymes and you have not been taking any Rx meds and you eat a healthy diet, then you need to get tested for celiac disease. Elevated liver enzymes are one of the anomalies that is seen with celiac.

I was going to say dry skin. I know that I have been contending with this when the weather changed; however, no welts. Good that you are seeing the doctor.
