if i'm going to tan myself, i use either the lancome or mary kay. i'm EXTREMELY white and that's an understatement. those two seem to do good w/o going orange. i also had a spray tan at westlake dermatology that was awesome. i did it a few days before my wedding and no orange. someone actually airbrushes the tan on you instead you having to stand in a mystic tan booth. i think it was like $30 but totally worth it.

I have tried many of the self tanners, and yes they do all smell! One poster said to wash your hands good after, well i use disposable latex gloves, i wash the gloves and re-use till they start to get nasty. Use sparing around dry areas, and exfoliate your skin before the first use. also helpful, applying a bit of body lotion on dry areas before you apply the self tammer. yes it dies your clothes if you get dressed too fast, and feet are the hardest thing to get to look natural. Use a light body lotion before the self tanner around the feet. stay away from dry callouses, they will tan like there's no tomorrow!
Most important thing that i don't think anyone mentioned, you will feel and look tan, but your not, Use plenty of sunscreen while on that cruise. The sun in those warmer areas is very intense, much moreso than you are used to being in, even in the hottest summer. You will burn very easily, just beacuse you look like you have a tan, doesn't mean your skin is accustomed to that sun! be careful.

I've always used the Clarins instant tanning gel. I liked it because you start to see the results quickly (within an hour) and it dries quickly, so you don't have to wait forever to get dressed.

No matter which you choose, there are some things to keep in mind.
First, you want get completely undressed before you apply it because it will stain your clothes -- including your underwear. Also, don't get dressed until it dries completely.
Next, make sure that you wash your hands thoroughly after you apply it -- make sure you scrub around your fingernails. If you don't, you will get dark tan palms and nail beds -- not pretty. The Clarins works so quickly, I usually wash up after each leg.
Finally, make sure you go slowly and avoid putting on too much at first. Apply it, wait a day to see how you like the color, and then add more gradually. It's easy to add more than it us to wait out a bad color.

The tanner basically dyes your skin, so it will last as long as the upper layer of your skin does (usually 3-4 days) before it fades. It will fade more quickly in places where you shave.
Lastly, sorry, but the things that make the tanners work also make them stinky. Some smell less than others, but you're not going to find one without any odor.
Good luck!

Hi K.,
I usually use sunless tanning by jergens and it works pretty good but the best sunless tanning you can do is the tanning at the tanning salon that sprays you, it works pretty good and it evenly sprays your whole body and lasts about 2-3 weeks and it's odorless and it doesn't start to come off when you shower or shave like the other creams, it costs about 20.00 I loved it when I did it for a vacation once.
Good Luck!

Mia

Hi K.,

I sell beauticontrol and they have an excellent sunless tanner www.beautipage.com/roxannebruce

It lasts on me for about 1 week, I apply it in the evening before bed and then again the next morning. I'm naturall Olive and most sunless tanners make me odly colored, but this one seems to work well. It doesn't make you super dark, just a nice natural. Like you sun bathed for about a week.

If you have any questions just give me a call ###-###-####, you can order it right off the site. Also I am in San Antonio for another 3-4 days then we are being stationed in Germany. So, if you should need anything else email is probably the best way to get ahold of me.

Enjoy your vacation!!

I am not into tanning. If I were you I would get a spray tan by a professional. But I have seen spray tans in cans that seem to work really good. I also heard Dillards sells a really great self tanner. I think it was Esta Lauder. Not sure on the brand. Have fun.

I believe Nutregena has one that is god, it is not orange at all. I also have used the lotion that gradually tans you to get rid of an uneven tan for a wedding, Jergens Natural Glow, and it worked great but it isn't a dark tan just a subtle glow.

You may want to consider getting a professional spray on tan. I know many salons and spas offer those.

I take a class at the Crew gym on Washington in Houston and they do custom tans there for about $25, you can call Natalie 713-802-CREW.
