I don't have seizures anymore, but I used to have the same type that you do. I can understand what you are going through. It is scary when you don't know when it is going to happen and trying to take care of a little one. Do you have numerous ones a day or does medicine control them at all? I know a few people who have had the same type of seizures with young children and their kids came up fine. Since they only last a few seconds it is doudtful that you will hurt her. i am sorry to hear that you suffer from seizures. i don't know however what it is like, but i do have an idea. i do know that there are well trained dogs for that. they are able to let you know BEFORE you have one. dogs have scences like no other. it may be something you could look in to or research online. that way when you get the alert from the dog you can make sure that your little one is put somewhere safe first. just a thought.

Hi C.; I'm 32, my daughter Molly is 19 months old. I also have epilepsy - although when I have seizures, they are grand mal (convulsions). And I'm also a single parent. I had to respond to your post to let you know you're not alone! When a seizure comes on for me, I have what's called an aura; its just a really weird feeling, like deja vu - and then I'll know that a seizure may be about to happen. Do you have those before your seizures? Are you on any meds or do you see a neurologist?

First let me tell you, you are not alone! Many people struggle with this. I too have a seizure disorder (started about a year and half ago) except I mostly had grand mal seizures. But either way it is very frustrating. I had to stop working as a pediatric nurse for the same reason as you are dealing with. It was not fair or responsible of me to take the chance of something happening with somone else's child. Your case is diffrent. I could never imagine having to deal with this with a child that young. My baby was five when I took my first seizure. You must feel so frustrated and scared. I am so sorry for this.If you don't mind I am going to ask you a few questions so that I can better try to offer help to you. Do you have an aura before your seizures? When were you diagnosed? Lots of people who are newly diagnosed get remarkably better when their meds get regulated. I personally will FINALLY be siezure free for 6 months tomorrow. YEA ME!!!! lol. Where do you live? Although I don't have seizures randomly, I do have seizures when I am pain. A nerve through my spine sends a message to my brain telling my heart to stop, so it does, i seize and it starts again. I fell down the steps with my daughter the other day, WHICH IS ONE OF MY BIGGEST FEARS! I didn't seize but it scared me to death. Point is this...it's going to happen at some point and luckily i have people like Dan to tell me...the more you worry about it, the more likely it is to happen. I think as a mother, it's been 3 months, even if you were holding her and had a seizure, your instincts would either #1 tell you before you were about to do it, or #2 hold on for dear life while you did it. Don't worry about it. If you've gone this long without dropping her, you can go longer.

What does the doctor say about your condition. I'm sure there is medication that would help. If you dont have health insurance I'm sure there is a clinic near you. For the safety of your daughter you should get this taken care of. How about other family members? Can they help with the caring of your daughter and you?

I would maybe consider babywearing if you are concerned about dropping her with the type of seizures that you have. I wouldn't necc. recommend it if you also have other types of seizures, but you wouldn't drop her. Plus it is great to be able to carry her around and still have your hands free. Maitai wraps, slings, nojo wraps, are all very good, and if you are crafty you make one pretty easily. Good luck, and know that no matter what, babies do fall occasionally, and they are designed so that they don't get really hurt if/when that happens.
