Are ther any other Mamasource moms who still breastfeed their children who are beyond the toddler years! I breast feed my daughter who will be four at the end of the summer. I am seeking other moms who practice sustained breastfeeding to discuss this topic with.

I am so happy to hear from all of you who either practiced extended breastfeeding in the past, do so currently or are consitering it for the future. Your support means alot to me! Right now I am begining to build support localy by organizing a social support group for women who breastfeed Full term (past, present, or future plans). I am also wanting to build a support network for women across the county. I am thinking of creating a yahoo group for this community. In addition I hope to inspire woment to write their extended breastfeeding stories and submit them to me to be consittered for inclution in an anthology on the topic. So I am happy to read your stories. I hope to hear from more people in the future and also am willing to awnser questions on how extended breastfeeding works for me.

I breastfed my daughter until she was almost five when she wanted to stop. We loved it! What's up?
I wanted to add that my husband's sister nursed until she was four (his mom is a saint-- that was her third child!). She is now the only doctor in the extended family (and did very well in med school too). And she is happily married and thinking about starting her own family. A wonderful, sweet, fun, confident person. We should all be so lucky to have a mother who put in that much time and energy.

I am a nursing mom of a four year old boy and a 14 month old boy. Many times tandom. I never thought that my oldest would still want to nurse but I know it's for the best. My husband and mother are both supportive. I encourage you to continue as long as your daughter wishes to nurse. Would love to talk more...Have a wonderful day!

I am not there yet, my older daughter weened herself when I was pregnant with my 2nd at about 17 months, but I will be nursing my now 7month old as long as she needs and will be curious to follow this for future support. Thanks for putting it out there!

I wanted to suggest that you attend a La Leche League meeting. I've been going to the Sacramento chapter meetings (third Thursday of each month, so you unfortunately just missed one) and there are mothers there who have practiced extended breastfeeding. Hi S.! You're not alone! My oldest nursed until she was 3.5. I encouraged her to wean bEcause I was 12 weeks pregnant and the pain was unbarable. She was ready and it wasn't a fight. Her baby sister will be two in October and will likely nurse past three--based on her frequent need to check in with a quick 'nuss' every hour or so. Did you jsut want to discuss extended nursing or did you have something else requiring support? I imagine there are a lot of moms who will chime in and offer it!
hey S.! i breastfed my son until he was almost five. he's 12 now so it's been awhile. i caught quite a bit of flak from my husband about it, and most people didnt understand why i was still nursing, but it was such a nice quiet bonding time for us that even at almost five i hated to stop. i finally caved to all the pressure from my husband and family and stopped. my son missed the night nursing the most, but did okay with just snuggling. let me know if theres anything i can help you with.
