My daughter is just starting with this whole attitude thing. She hits me for know reason, yells and kicks and screams. It is really getting to the point that I cannot take her out in public without a temper tantrum. I am really at a point I don't know what to do anymore. I feel like I am failing as a mother since I cannot control my kid.

What can I do next?

I am in the same boat! My son is almost two and going through the same thing. I am also 26, will be 27 next month. Let me know what you find out. I could use some help with that too!! I also live in Town and Country.

The fact that your a single mom, working to support you and your daughter has probably given her some issues with attention. Being that she's at school most of the day and when you get home you may be tire. I dunno, but you sound like me and my son. I am a 26 year old single mom of a 3 1/2 year old boy who is pulling the exact same thing all of a sudden. It may be a phase. Just try to pay attention and see if there isn't an issue with her that she may be acting out aggression because she's feeling lonely. I have been thinking about that with my son. It's hard when your a single parent. But your not a failure. Keep up the good Work.

I'm not sure how old your daughter is but, this is true for any age. I am a pre-school teacher and most parents do not realize that they are encouraging this behavior. when your child hit you, tell her I do not like to be hit, you may not hit me and send her to a saft spot. do not give her any more attention for (1 min. per age) the time she is there. Once she and you have calmed down, go to her and tell her again why she was there. Tell her that she can use her big girl words to say what she wants and that she may not hit you. We use the safe place quite often(we call it the beans, because we have a few bean bags and pillows in a corner by the book shelf). when we have a child hurting another child, or having a temper tantrum or miss-behaving we tell them they need to go to the beans until they have settled down ( or until we tell them, depending on why they are there). Some of the children will actually put them self there now. Hope this helps. Oh, remember your daughters schedule at school for naps and meals should be followed at home also. I see children having fits in the stores all the time usually between noon and 2 (they are tired or hungry). P. :-)

Tell me about it! Mine is 8 years old and though she behaves in public, at home, she has a horrid temper. If I correct her schoolwork and tell her that she needs to do something, she starts whining and then "her temper goes up" as she puts it. She kicks doors, walls, throws and breaks things. I think I'm going to speak to her pediatrician and get a referral for her to talk to a psychiatrist or counselor. Perhaps you might want to pursue the same avenue? I do my best with my own child, am consistent with discipline etc. yet she is willful and rude. I cannot allow myself to think that somehow I'm the failure though and you shouldn't either.
