Just curious if your child had roseola how long after the fever broke did it take for the rash to appear? My 2 year old (just turned two) has ran a high fever (102.5+) since Tues., it got as high as 104' which is unheard of for my kiddos. The fever finally broke around 6pm yesterday and this morning I so was expecting a rash of some type or some other sign of illness, especially since his ears, urine and chest all came back normal. Surprisingly there's nothing yet and he seems to be back to his normal self? I've read mixed reviews as to whether they are contagious until the rash shows (if it is even Roseola), and didn't know how long I should wait until I assume it isn't Roseola, and just some other viral thing....

What can I do next?

Not sure if any of my kids had roseola. I hate to sound like a bad mom, but after having 3 kids, I have pretty much stopped taking my kids to the doctor, unless their fever is dangerously high (over 104) or they have something going on that is severe (rash, cough, or otherwise). Otherwise, it always seems like just as the time comes when I think "one more day of this, and then I better take them to the doc", the virus gets better.
My 2 year old just had a virus, where she ran a 103 fever for about 48 hours, and then obviously still felt lousy for about 3 days after. But there was really no reason to take her to the doc, and I'd heard of other people having all kinds of viruses at that time, so we just let it ride. Then of course, I got her virus right after, but for me, it was a bad headache for 5 days, viruses always seem to hit everyone in our family differently.
Anyway, I guess my point is you won't always know what virus exactly your kids have, and unless it's severe, sometimes it's not even worth paying to see the doc, because chances are, they won't know what it is either, and will only be able to tell you that ears, urine, etc. are negative :)

With my daughter, the rash came on pretty sudden after the fever broke. I would say it was within 12 hours or so. I have heard that some kids can have the virus and never get the rash, although that is more rare.

If you haven't seen a rash by end of today, then I would probably make a quick call to the pediatrician to see what they think.

My son has had it. 4 days of fever (104-105), immediately followed by a 24hr rash all over his torso, then cleared up.

Not sure about contagiousness, though...

I believe on day 3 or 4 after fever broke the rash appeared....he still had fever but not as high. It had gone to 106! He was in the hospital while we were on vacation. Rough time for us all, but the rash appeared and wasn't there that long maybe 3 days of being covered-then went away.

My son had it at a very very young age. The fever lasted a day or two. The day it broke, the rash appeared. The rash didn't bother him and lasted a few days or so. Just treat his symptoms and do what you can to make him comfortable. Ibprofen for the fever and maybe allow him to walk around in only a diaper once the rash hits.
