Hi,
Anyone have any thoughts/pros or cons on preparing rice cereal w/ breastmilk or with water for a 6 1/2 mos. old? Been using breastmilk, but will start to add fruits & veggies soon which will have been steamed & will have some water in them. Thought at this age the max a baby should consume in water daily is 2 ounces. Any feedback appreciated. Thx!

My baby always liked the cereal mixed with breastmilk or fruit juice more than when I mixed it with water.I also would mix the stage one fruits(they are so runny and thin) with the rice cereal and my little boy loved it! He also has always liked plain water to drink, I dont think it will hurt them, the doctors say we have enough water in our breastmilk that is enough for them too.But if you mix it with food, it is fine too.

breastmilk... that stuff tastes terrible like the other mother said. My son won't even eat it. Start with the veggies or you will have a hard time getting him to eat anything other than fruits or sweet stuff.

My son was born on Jan 12th... when was yours born?

Breast milk, there is more nutritional value. It also lends a sweeter taste for your baby!

J.,

Just use your breast milk, it's better tasting, and adds that extra bit of nutrition. I would also use diluted white grape juice juice in stead of breast milk or water at times, but not until I had started my boys on solids. After that, it just gave a little more variety, after all the stuff tastes terrible on it's own...

A little about me:

I am 34, married to my best friend of almost 11 years, and the proud mama to 4 beautiful boys ages 9,6, and twins that are 4!

J.,

Breastmilk- the water makes the cereal really runny and gross. So stick with the breastmilk.
