I have 3 teenage boys that i need to find good schools and a decent area to live in. I would prefer horse property, but I am beginning to think I will not be able to find any. My 3 boys that are going with me are will be 1 in Jr High and 2 in High school. They are all very outgoing, just heard some horror stories about new people coming to the area and are considered outsiders. My boys play sports, not just football but baseball. Is there any good areas for that? I heard Prosper is good, and Frisco...but looking at Trophy Club as well... any thoughts? Moving very soon and still cant nail down an area......

Thank you!
T.

So What Happened?

My hubby and I went to visit the area to just see the layout.... Trophy club is nice, but a trek to dallas....Yes, the traffic was horrible. The drive from Prosper..Plano etc was not bad. LOVE, LOVE , LOVE the toll roads... so worth it to fly....Hubby will be working from Home so doesnt matter to him.....and me probably stay home for now, Unless I can find horse property and either board horses or do some sort of rescue to keep me busy. I know when we visited last month, the people were so nice, but we were just visiting. I just want to make sure the schools are top priority for my boys. Iheard that north of Dallas was the best and to avoid the south/southern part..........so hard to relocate when you know nothing about where you are going...

I have friends that live and Prosper and they are very sports oriented...they like it out there. Flower Mound schools are very good (Marcus High School and Flower Mound High School) and have strong sports programs - my kids go to Marcus and the feeder schools. You can still find some land out there if you look. Double Oak feeds into these high schools and has some really nice areas out there. Lantana feeds into Marcus schools as well.

Good luck!!

Those are good areas, but if you're interested in moving south of DFW, you might check into Mansfield. We have several acres, and the schools are great. The house next door to us foreclosed last spring, and it is a beautiful property. They have horses (the horses are still there; someone is taking care of them). Mansfield has built up a ton in the past 10 years, but there are still many homes with property. Mansfield is about 30 minutes south of the DFW airport. Welcome to Texas!

I really like Keller, especially the Heritage Trace communities. Keller is very close to 35 and 121, it's in between Dallas and Ft Worth, kind of the best of both worlds but more affordable than Southlake in housing and property taxes. Convenient to Southlake's shopping and churches though. We moved a year ago but I still miss it. One of our neighbors had 2 boys who played soccer and baseball, and the baseball team went to the (kids) world series, a really great team. The school district is award winning. Close enough to Denton that you could be around "horse areas".....my other neighbors girls take weekly riding lessons and are big into that. People are pretty friendly; I never really saw those "horror stories" of not fitting in. (Experienced them firsthand in a few other places though, where it takes a good year to find your place.....perhaps Keller has so much to offer, so many special interest opportunities, hobbies, clubs, etc that you're bound to find some friends that are interested in similar activities?)
www.heritagelife.com is the site for the community we lived in, and I loved it SO much. Good luck with the move.

If work will be nearer the Fort Worth side, check out Aledo. We may move back to Texas this summer, and Aledo is where we will go. We moved from Arlington this past August.

If more towards the Dallas side, the suggestions already given are where you should look!!

Welcome to the DFW area.

My physical address is in Allen but we are in the Plano schools.

Our daughter is in Sr. High School at Plano West and we LOVE it. She is getting a great foundation in education... West is rated in the top 1% of High Schools in America. Students and teachers are very "team" oriented and work with each other, help each other, network, etc. Almost all of the students are college bound after graduation. Colleges come in weekly to visit and recruit. LOVE PLANO WEST. We couldn't ask for a better Sr. High School.

We also love our home which is the Allen address. Allen is a great place to live. We live in one of the very few areas of the DFW area that has basement homes (not many here and none on the market). We back up to a huge wooded area, enjoy wildlife of coyotes, bobcats, etc often. LOVE our privacy and large wooded lot.

We opted NOT to live in West Plano due to the smaller lots and houses so close to each other and traffic. We are in West Plano daily with daughter's school and our country club.

We have easy access to the tollways and Central Expressway. You can be downtown Dallas in 1/2 hr, depending on traffic, at DFW airport inside an hour, Love Field inside 1 hr. SO many things to do with sporting events, concerts, etc.

I would stay North of the Dallas area but that is just our preference.

You could probably find property suitable for horses in Parker, Wylie, Prosper, Celina which are all a bit North of the Allen area. Frisco is also a nice area and growing rapidly.

Feel free to private message me if you have any questions and WELCOME!

Hi T.! We moved to the area about five years ago and LOVE it here. Are you moving here for a job? If so, it would be good to know the area in which you or your husband will work. It makes a huge difference on where you'd want to live.

Southlake and Trophy Club are great areas - but VERY expensive. Schools and sports are supposed to be great. If you are having to go into Dallas for work, traffic is a nightmare from this location. There is a ton of road construction always going on.

Plano - is a great area. Homes are a little older and a little more expensive than others in N. Dallas (Allen, Frisco are less expensive). Plano is considered to be pretty central as far as commute to Dallas.

Frisco - All new homes, new schools, lots of shopping. Tollways are quickest route to Dallas and will cost you. Traffic can be bad to Dallas.

McKinney - They have older and newer homes. Affordable in spots, more expensive in others. Pretty diverse. I love McKinney! Don't know about the schools there, but they were named as one of the top 10 places to live in some publication (can't remember which).

Personal favorite - Allen. Homes are affordable and location is great. Somewhat easy commute to Dallas. Schools are excellent here! High school sports are huge here, especially football. But the high school is large and offers tons of activities and sports. Allen was also listed in the top 10 places to live a couple of times. Great community atmosphere with lots of community activities!

Please feel free to mssg me if you'd like more info.

You might look at Plano. I don't know about the horses, but the schools in Plano are quite fine.

Welcome!!
I live in arlington and my son went to Barnett jr high and now at bowie high school. I love these two schools! Mansfield is a jump over from where we are and you can get more rural properties over here for horses. Take a look over on our side! Its a little more south but we like it!

I would look in to the Celina area if you are wanting some property to keep horses. Country setting but close to frisco, plano, MCkinney areas and commute would not be to far to Dallas. I love my area in Carrollton but you are not gonna find much open space around here. Another area to look in would be Flower Mound, there are a couple communities that actually have managed stables available to homeowners (Bridlewood is one i know for sure offers this but it is a very expensive area).

Corinth is a very baseball oriented area, but 45 minutes north of dallas with NO traffic. depends if you or someone is working and where there job is. DFW is a huge area and commuting can really take alot of time. I know rockwall area where 30 and 190 meet just opened up a new super highway and that is new territory, lots of open land.
