How do you treat or clean your wedding ring to help reduce chapping on the finger. It is red, itches, and very irritated. What is the best way to clean your rings?????

What can I do next?

I had this as a newlywed and my ring was wide. I had to take it off for a few days to heal. After that I took it off at night, and didn't always wear the band to make it thinner and I slide it up to dry under it when I wash my hands. (scary to do that though--I almost lost it once doing that!) It's been 7+ yrs and never got it again.

That happened has happened to me as well. It's probably a little fungal infection.

Get some anti-fungal ointment (either athletes foot cream or yeast infection cream) and put it on the rash every day for a couple of days.

Wash your ring and then leave it off until the rash clears up.

I've had this problem with my ring. I painted the inside of my ring with clear nail polish, and no more problem! It comes back every 5 years or so, and I figure that the clear polish has worn off, paint it again, and am good for another few years.

hello
it's prob not the rings, but the soaps you use that then stay deposited under the ring... e.g. washing dishing, even shampoos... all can be irritants..
I used to get that same rash and sometimes it got really bad. Additionally, it can spread. there is some cream the dermatologist can give you (they see it all the time) and when you have flare ups, you can use it. I found the best way for me to avoid that rash is to.. one use gloves when possible.. and two, when washing your hands, get them wet first before applying soap.. this way, it's not as concentrate ...

Take off the rings for about a week. Treat the area with a cortisone cream. Sometimes that happens from water getting trapped under the rings and not really being "dry" after washing hands, etc. Time, air & medicated cream will most likely solve it.

Yes, it is a fungus infection that is caused by trapped water (moisture) caught between the ring and your finger. Like the other ladies said, you should always dry your fingers and rings to prevent this from happening. I usually just take mine off when I shower or do dishes, etc... It'll go away in a few to five days ;o)

Other people have great responses, but here's another thought.
I tried cleaning my ring, but I had developed an allergy to gold. The only thing that I was able to do to keep my ring from irritating my skin was to have it plated with platinum. It didn't cost much, and it helps my ring stay shiny.

Depends on what the ring is made of. If it's real gold and diamonds, I use a baby toothbrush with soft brissles and windex. Rinse in cold water.

....If it's turning your finger red though it could be too small for your finger. That or you're getting really dry skin under there. Consider taking them off to sleep or a couple times a day to lotion really well.

I've had that before and it was due to water getting trapped under my ring after washing my hands. I started taking off my ring to wash my hands (annoying, yes) and making sure they were totally dry before putting it back on. Cleared up in about a week.

Do you think you may be allergic to the metal used in your ring? I know lots of women who are allergic to gold, it is worth checking into.
