Rear Facing Car Seat Confusion

I am trying to move my 18 month old ds#2 to a convertible car seat. He is already 33 inches tall and all the car seats I find govup to 40 inches for rear facing. I know it is recommended that he remain rear facing until at least 2 if not longer.

So my question is: is there a convertible car seat that goes past 40 inches? If not, do I have to make him forward facing? I want to stay on the cheaper side of the scale since it is techincally for my husband’s truck. The car seat won't be used as much as the one in my car.

What can I do next?

It will be a while before he hits 40 inches. So go with the convertible.

33 inches tall at 18 months old isn't super tall. He might grown another two inches before he turns two but likely wouldn't hit 40 inches until well past his 3rd birthday. A regular convertible seat should be just fine.

Car seats are pretty standard, there are infant seats, convertible seats and booster seats. Your only option for an 18 month old is a convertible seat. You face them backwards until age 2 (your child will be under 40 inches at 2) and then face forward. Check out prices and sales, you can find one for a reasonable price. All of the seats on the market in the US meet safety regulations. Look for ease of use and price. I bought Safety First seats for 2nd cars. They were inexpensive and comfortable for the toddlers.

your child is 18 months. it is highly unlikely that they will grow 7 inches in the next 6 months. i even doubt that your child will grow that 7 inches in the next 12 months. i would not worry about it and go for any carseat that you feel safe enough.
