My daughter will soon be a year old. She is still breastfeeding, but is losing interest. She has been eating third foods for awhile, but is not crazy about chunks. She loves her veggie puffs though! Am at a loss as to what she should be eating next. She has her two bottom teeth. Where do I start? When is she ready for table food? Does she have enough teeth to move on? Thanks!!

She is absolutley ready for table foood! Try soft foods like mashed or baked potatoes, scrambled eggs, avocado, canned green beans, mashed banana, yogurt, etc. My son is 9 1/2 months old and we have started him on all of these foods already. You may have to try them several times before he actually eats them. Don't give up, but she is definitely ready for table food!

My daughter was the same way. She would not eat the chunks in the size 3 baby food jars. I slowly introduced foods that would disolve easily. Like crackers and cheetos, anything soft; green beans. She would eat some pastas, like spagetti cut into little pieces, of course more ended up on the floor than in her mouth; but she got the concept. She was probably 14 months before she really started eating more solid foods. She's still picky and she's 19 months old, it comes and goes. You just have to try different things everyday, she will come around eventually, just at her own time; like mine. Good luck and have fun trying new foods.

P.,

Babies don't need teeth for table food. Anything you can smash between your thumb and finger will work. My daughter was 9.5 months old and finished baby food - eating only table food and didn't get her first tooth until she was 11 months old. What I started with:

Shredded Cheese
thin slice deli meat (from the actual deli)
canned vege's
canned fruits
baked/mashed potatoes
pasta

Good luck!
T.

Hi P.,

We started my little guy off with mash potatoes, apple sauce, noodles.

My nephew is 11 months and is able to eat peaches, potatoes, and chicken cut up in small pieces.

I think the key is just cutting everything up in small pieces.

Have fun trying new things!

I have 3 children. My youngest is 14 months and has been eating table food for quite some time now. I would start with mashed potatoes, an occasional french fry, peas, green beans, corn, cheerios (always a big hit). If she does well with those, you can add to that with small bites of just about anything. Steer clear of strawberries, nuts, and shellfish and other allergens until she's 2.

My pedi put my son on table food at his 10 month visit. Soft cheese's, lunch meat, anything soft that they can kinda mush while learning to use their teeth. My dd loves eggs and grits, pancakes, bisquits, food in general. He is a big boy. I still give him 3rd veggies in between to make sure he is getting his vitamins, depending on what he is eating that day. He loves carrotts and mashed sweet potatos too.

Hi P.,
My favorite resource for feeding your baby is a book called Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron. It gives good guide lines on when to introduce foods, creative meal planning, storing and prepping food, etc and lots of other educational information. It's awesome!
Have fun!

At 10 mo my son started refusing baby food so reluctantly I moved on to table food. She does have enough teeth to eat soupy or soft table foods. She does most of her mastication with her gums. Peas, carrots, pastas, mashed potatos, yogurt, green beans, ravioli (in bite size pieces) are all a good place to start. Good luck.
