My son (almost 2.5yrs old) is currently sleeping in a toddler bed / 3n1 convertible crib. We are pregnant and will be needing the crib soon. So we were wanting to get him a different bed, specifcally a race car toddler bed. He currently will fall asleep in his toddler bed, but sometime through the night will end up in our bed. Bad habit, I know. We will need to get him out of this habit soon, as my belly grows, and before the baby gets here (April). Any thoughts on race car toddler beds? Are they worth the money? I found one at a consignment store for $65, Is that reasonable? They seel for around $200 at Toys R Us. Also, he is almost 2.5 already, don't want to buy a new bed that he will only fit in and use for a year. Thanks for your help!

I would suggest a twin bed instead of a toddler bed. He will probably grow out of a toddler bed soon, so you would have to transition him again (hence more money for another bed!). You can entice him with his 'big boy' bed by letting him pick his own sheets (like Disney's Cars). My daughter went straight from a crib at around 2 to a full sized bed with one of those side guards so she wouldn't fall out. There wasn't a problem at all! She's only fallen out once (a couple months ago and she is 4 now), but it was off the foot of the bed! Not much we could do about that one....

We had a car bed, and my kids loved it!! My first slept in it until she was four. Then my second slept on it until he was almost five! Totally worth it, $65 is a great deal!

a child can sleep in a toddler bed comfortably until they are aproximately 6 or 7 unless they are really tall. both my boys slept in them. the race car bed is great. is it the little blue one? we had one of those. he will fit in it till he is about 6 or 7. can your next little one sleep in it? is it a girl or boy? You might almost want to go with bunk beds instead of a car bed. then your set till they hit highschool or junior high at least. good luck.

I would suggest purchasing another convertible bed for the new baby. This way you won't have to purchase ANOTHER set of beds in a few years. Think about it... your new baby will sleep in the crib, then it will convert into the toddler bed, then what? When your son outgrows the race car bed you will need to buy him a "big boy" bed and the baby one too! What if it's a girl!

My best friend had her son in a crib, then bought the race car bed (full price) which lasted for about two years before being passed on to the next child. It is now garage sale fodder b/c both boys needed "big boy" beds. In retrospect, she thinks it was a waste!

Your son sleeping in your bed has nothing to do with what the bed looks like!

My 2.5 yr old son was just moved from a crib to a toddler car bed, and he loves it. So worth the money, and once you put the crib spring and mattress in, there is still a lip so the child can't fall out of it. (even so, it would be a 15 inch fall). We are happy we moved him. Every night at our house, we all go into our older daughters room to sing songs before bed. The first night with the car bed, he refused to go in her room for the songs, he just wanted to jump right into bed! It was really funny.

We bought ours on craigslist, it was $60, and spotless! They're all over ebay too. Don't pay full price!

My 4.5 year old is still sleeping (and fitting) in his fire truck toddler bed! We got it off Craig's List for $100, so I think $65 is great! The people we got ours from had a 6 year old who was finally too tall for it but still wanted it! My son is fairly tall for his age too, and we got it when he was 2.5 -so far -2 years of enjoyment!

We bought one for our son when he was about 30 months old. He was already sleeping in a toddler bed but I wanted to go ahead and give his room a real theme. We bought the cars bedding and he loves it. He is 35 months old now and has started having bad dreams so he doesn't always sleep the whole night in it but 99% of the time he does. He loves it. I bought mine used for $60.

I wouldn't get a separate toddler bed. I am assuming that the 3n1 is crib, toddler, big bed? Then you should get another for the baby. Let your son stay in his toddler bed until he is ready for it to transition to the big boy bed. That is what I have done with my two, and I am happy that I have. We currently have one in toddler mode and one in crib mode.
