I am starting a blog about homeschooling, and I would like to get some opinions about available homeschool curriculum.
What program would you recommend?
Is there a certain program that you would advise people to stay away from?
Any tips for successful homeschooling?

Any answers would be appreciated. Also if anyone wants to check out my site it's http://homeschool.tonoftips.net/ I just started it a couple days ago, so there isn't much there.

Sonlight, Abekka and Veritas Press are the three I know about. Sonlight has a pretty good website. I have not begun to homeschool (this fall we will start pre-k) but I go to a church where many homeschool and these 3 have been suggested. I know that many parents mix and match curriculum as well.

I am currently using starfall.com. You can teach your children their alphabet and letter sounds and reading right online for free! They have a curriculum available, too. If it's anything like the learning tools on the website (I'm not currently using a curriculum), then I would definitely look into getting the curriculum. My friends also homeschool their children, and they use the Sonlight curriculum. They rave about it. I'd also just kind of look around online and see if you can find free printable learning pages. I have done that as well. I hope this information helps. Good luck with homeschooling!

I will check it out and post.
By the way I love Shurley Grammar and we are using Singapore Math.
Also I just found these craft books called HIstory Pockets. THey are filled with crafts and little lessons about a topic. We are doing Ancient Egypt, it is a great supplement.

I hate actual cirriculum for little ones. I prefer to let them pick out at the library what subjects they want to study that week and then get books made for their age group on those subjects.

When I was in highschool my parents took me to a homeschool store and let me pick out my books. I never used one brand. I learn differently in different subjects so I would look at them all and pick the ones I could comphrend the best. This method worked great for me and I guess that's why I'm using the same method with my kids. At their ages I'm still picking the books, but they are both under five years old.
