Im close to 34 weeks pregnant. On wednesday, I woke up extremely dizzy and nauseas. I also believe I lost my mucus plug (sorry tmi!) Thursday I was very nauseas again all day long and had alot of braxton hick contractions that were painful. This morning I woke up with horrible cramps in my lower abdomen. They feel like a cross between menstruel cramps and flu cramps. They are really painful and I have been having what I assume are painful braxton hicks again. They have been non stop all day long. Nothing helps. I have tried changing positions, drinking cold water, taking Tylenol, and even took a warm bath and nothing makes the cramps go away. I always procrastinate and didnt call my doctor at all, I have an appt next tuesday though. Has anyone else had these symptoms before? (This is my 2nd pregnancy, the 1st one I was induced so I have no idea what actual labor feels like. Thanks !

What can I do next?

You should get yourself checked out, pronto! Painful cramps that don't go away are not normal. Braxton Hicks aren't usually painful....uncomfortable, yes....but not painful.

Don't take anything for the pain, especially Advil or another ibuprofen. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok, but I'd wait till you see a doctor first.

Yes, most of those could be signs of labor. My early labor the contractions felt like menstrual cramps. Call your doctor for advice and see if they can see you tomorrow if they don't want you to go to the hospital immediately. If the cramps/contractions get stronger and closer together then it is labor. Some people have a longer slower early labor before it gets to a more active phase Rest or sleep if you can so you have the energy to get through labor. Tylenol is okay when pregnant, not other painkillers. 34 weeks is early but 36 weeks is considered full term so it is only 2 weeks preterm.

My daughter, 32.6 weeks, just went through this. She had Braxton Hicks that wouldn't go away. She ate, took a shower. She timed them. They weren't regular but they had been going on all day. She asked if we should go get her checked out. Of course I suggested that we should! She wasn't even going to take her suitcase. I suggested that she should. It could always stay in the car. Turned out that she was 5-6. She delivered just a few hours later. GO GET CHECKED!! Many times they can stop labor but not if you wait too long. Good Luck!

I lost my mucus plug and within an hour I was having small contractions. I called the doctor they told me to come to the hospital(it was at 10 at night) they said they were small contractions and to come back if they got stronger and closer. went home went to bed. 8hrs later I woke up, felt a pop deep inside and ran to the bathroom, my water broke. That was my experience. I would definitely call the on call..

I was always told to go in to the hospital if I had more than 5 contractions in an hour. If you've tried to rest, take a bath and tylenol and they're not going away, I would go in. Especially because you're only 34 weeks along and maybe something could be done to stop labor, if you're in it.

Good Luck!!

It is hard to know if you are going into labor now or if labor is still several weeks away. Either way, I don't think you should wait until next Tuesday for your appointment - that is five days away! Please call and go in to see a doctor right away. They may admit you to the hospital, send you home on full or modified bed rest, tell you just to take it easy, or say that everything is fine. There is no way to know until you are seen. Also, 37 weeks is considered full term. Every week up until that point is critical for development. Hope that everything goes well.
