Hi S.:
I'm sure the book referal you recieved from michele.s will be very good. you may also want to run through a few of the past request and responses here on the site. There have been plenty on potty training. The best to you and your son.

Hi S., Why did you wait so long to start? at his age, he needs to go on the toilet, he's probabbly to big for a potty chair. I would make sure he is in traing pant's no diapers, no pull ups, he should go quick sense you are starting so late. J.

I highly recommend The No Cry Potty Solution, by Elizabeth Pantley. It's a great/short read!!

Just like that, you want to train him this month to start school next month...well, if he is ready then you can, but if he is not yet (physically/psychologically) ready then it will take its own time. He needs to be showing signs: recognize the feeling of needing to go pee-pee and poop, learning how to stay dry overnight or long periods of time, able to dress/undress himself (the pants and undies), etc. Do not let your son in on the fact that he is on a deadline to learn to go potty. Let it be a fun relaxed learning experience with rewards for the good times and understanding parents to clean up all the accidents in the learning process. I definetly recommend no diaper (can use underwear or be naked)when they are in a stage of readiness so they can realize they have to use the potty to stay clean. Pull-ups can be great for night time for a while only but stick to underwear in the day so they don't regress. Good Luck to your son!!
