We just went through this with our 3 year old. What I ended up doing was buy him "poopy prizes", a mixture of toys (most from the $1 bin, but two big ones) I then showed him the prizes and told him that they were for when he pooped in the potty. After that, every time he would poop in his underpants I would act very disappointed that he won't be able to pick out a prize. Sometimes he asked to see the prizes, which I let him, but he could just look. It took about two weeks, but he finally pooped in the potty. I then gave him one of the big prizes. After that first time I would let him pick one of the small prizes every time he pooped. When all the little prizes were gone we considered him potty trained and gave him the "grand prize" which was the other big toy (a toy he's been wanting for a while) I warn you, he had about 2 days where he went 2-3 times a day for a prize, but it was enough to get him over the hump. He's been using the potty every since, with NO accidents!!

P.S. The first time he went was the first time we put him on the potty backwards. He loves it, I think he feels secure that way!!

I have a 3 year old daughter who was very hard to potty train. She use to do the same thing. She new she had to go poop and would go hide in the corner and yell at you and not want you to look at her while she was going. When we started potty training her we told her if you go poop in your panties you have to through them out. Mommy and Daddy go poop on the big potty. Your a big girl, Big girls got poop and pea on the big potty. I told her when you go poop let me know and since she didnt like any one looking at her. I let her go and get on the potty and told her to tell me when she was done. So I left the room with the door half open and she went on her own we made a big deal about it. And she was so happy she told every body that she went on the potty. We gave her a treat for it and just made the biggest deal about it. Dont give up It took me for ever it seems like to get her to go both on the potty. Just tell him if he goes do you wanna pick out your own toy or book or something but make him feel welcome about it. When you see him hiding to you could Try and catch him before he goes and see how that works out. Best of luck to you.

Potty training my son was like climbing Mt. Everest!! He is just now trained at 4. I made my son responsible for helping clean up when he pooped in his underware. I told him there would be no diapers or pull ups and it was up to him to let me know when he had to go. His body, his control. After a few times of pooping in his pants, he decided to use the potty. I bit my tongue and didn't get angry. I just remained silent and helped him clean up. I don't have any advice other than that, except to say good luck!!
