As if my life wasn't already filled with medical stress from my son, I just got a call from my dr saying my RA test is positive, and it was pretty high. Sigh:( I have to get the titier done because the lab I went to didnt run it like they were supposed to. Even after my dr called them to ask instead ran 7 other tests! I can't say I was to shocked about it being positive however, my mom has it severely, she's had numerous surgeries. As well as 2 aunts. I'm determined NOT to let it get as bad as my moms! I know there's only so much you can control as far as damage goes, but does anyone with RA have any supplement recommendations? I eat healthy, exercise, and take a multi vitamin. But is there more I can do? TIA

My dad does great on methotrexate. He's been on a low dose for years and it keeps his RA under control. He golfs all summer and is active. And he's 70! Never had surgery for His RA. Hopefully you will be referred to a good rheumatologist who will find what works for you.

Check out www.inspire.com it is a website where you can connect with other people who have the same disease/ailment as you. I have sarcoidosis and not many people even know what it is, let alone have it, I found that website to be very helpful to me in connecting with other "sarkies" we are able to communicate about our treatment options, find people in our area and give each other recommendations of good pulmonoligists, ect.

What many of us have done was get off of gluten, dairy, processed foods and any added sugars. Personally, I have found adding fresh juices made from veggies and a few fruits (like apple, pear, lemon added in) really makes a difference. I use a masticating juicer - NOT a centrifugal one.

I have already decided if autoimmune or cancer issues get bad, I will go the Gerson Therapy route.

Since you have this in your family, I assume you already know or will find a good rheumatologist? We also have autoimmune diseases in my family. A good specialist made a big difference for my mom. Someone posted a question similar to this within the last two weeks. She had an elevated RA factor, but no official diagnosis yet. Maybe you can search the Mamapedia archives and find some of the responses to her question? Good luck!
