Persistent Yeast Infections

Hi Mamas - prepare for too much information! (LOL) My MIL was visiting this last week and went through toilet paper like it was water. When I asked what was up, she said she that she has to wash very well or she gets a yeast infection. It's been a problem for as long as she remembers. She tried the flushable wipes and had a reaction to them (the non-allergic kind - sigh). I'm sure she's seen her OB/GYN re. this, but no luck. She's very sensitive body-chemistry-wise, etc, so I have no idea what to suggest. Any ideas on what might help? Thanks!

p.s. - she did re-stock our toilet paper ;) I just want to help her if I can.

What can I do next?

I had this problem as well for a year after I had my daughter I finally decided to go see my doctor. I was harboring just a small amount of yeast that I was never completely getting rid of with the over the counter treatments. He gave me a pill and a prescription treatment to use that finally cleared it up. You might just want to ask her if she has seen the OB/GYN.

I used to get these stupid things every month, but it was when I was on the Pill. ...probably not something your MIL is dealing with. However, now that that is no longer an issue (TMI on me, hubby had a vasectomy and I'm just all-natural), I can still take almost any antibiotic and get one. I have super-sensitive pH balance for some reason and I just always buy a Monastat when I fill and Rx.

If she's taking any kind of Rx, this may be causing it. It doesn't have anything to do with cleanliness, although tight fitting clothes can aggravate it. It's a pH thing.

See if she can find pHisoderm soap. It works for me too. It's sometimes hard to find, so I buy online or Walmart. It can really help with the "down there" balance.

Hope that helps!

Reduce sugar intake if she's a dessert eater, that's my main tip.

LOL to TMI.....I'll try to be brief. I USED to battle the yeast beast all too often, especially in the summer. To this day I cannot take a bath or I will get a UTI.

I started drinking DanActive about 9 months ago EVERY morning. I have not had another infection of either kind since.

I don't know if it could be a magic drink for your MIL but it sure is for me...I will continue drinking it and my daughter does as well. I buy it at Costco...you can get a 24 bottle carton for about $11-$12 which is WAY cheaper than the grocery prices. A 4 pack regularly runs around $2.69

Good luck!

I have systemic yeast and ints next to impossible to get rid of.

The first thing she should do is go to the gyno during an infection and have it tested for what kind of yeast. This will make treating it easier...if there is such a thing!

I have used it ALL. I have 1-12 YI a month for 15 years and usually continually during pregnancies.

The best natural treatment I have EVER found in Ruteri Probiotic. It is refridgerated and it will knock out a YI in a day or 2. Its also awesome for treating thrush in little ones.

If she can find out what kind of yeast, though treatment is more effective.

does your MIL have diabetes or been checked for diabetes?? Sometimes high blood sugar levels can cause recurrent yeast infections. Perhaps she could check on this.

She needs a probiotic. After menopause I began to have this problem, but have not had any in two years......since beginning my pro and prebiotic.

You might have her read about AAT. Advance allergy therapeutics. www.allergytx.com It could be something she is eating that is causing the reaction. This will take care of it and she won't even have to take medication for if. Good luck

First of all - it may not actually be yeast - it could be irritation from perfumes, dyes, toilet paper, soap, laundry detergent etc. all need to be eliminated - plain WHITE COTTON panties, ALL free and clear, dove soap - wash underwear separate - rinse twice... no pantiliners - those make it worse especially Always brand - just change panties if moisture is an issue. Those wipes are awful!! A definite no, no if you have chronic irritation! She should rinse with water and pat dry - or honestly air dry (or use a hairdryer) - sounds weird, I know.

Then if it is truely yeast - she should be tested for diabetes - as many have suggested! She may need to be on an oral antifungal for 6 full months - I know - I have been there!

Balance the pH - RePhresh is good for this (over the counter) - she could be dealing with chronic bacterial vaginosis too - which is a total pH balance issue - so make sure it is really yeast - or yeast treatments will actually just worsen the problem!

Probiotics - definitely!! Agree with all that have posted this!!

Good luck - feel free to pm if you have more questions.
