I am going to delivery in April at Methodist hospital in Sugerland. I am looking for a ped. who can come to the hospital and check our little girl. If possible release her before the 24 hour mark if we want to leave.

I was released at 24 hours with both my births- but I don't think they'll do it before then- it's not just about the baby, but also your health. I'm pretty sure 24 hours is the minimum. I'm not a big fan of hospitals but I don't think 24 hours is unreasonable. I live in the Sugarland area and our pediatrician is Dr. Knoebel at the Pediatric Center- I don't think they can guarantee which pediatrician from the group will come to the hospital but you can request that one of them does. You just have to let the hospital know you already have a ped. and would like them contacted. I like the Pedicatric Center- they are a pretty big group and have 2 locations- one in Sugarland and one in Richmond. Congrats!

Have you checked with a pediatrician in your area? I know when I was searching for one, they made an appt with me before my delivery so that I could meet the doctor and ask questions. It was at that time that he told me he visits the baby in the hospital to do a check. Most peds are affiliated with different hospitals so it's worth to just give a call and see if they schedule an appt with you prior to birth and if they do the hospital check. Not sure why you want to leave early, if all is well, it is sometimes helpful to stay extra to make sure things are going okay and you get some rest. I haven't heard of many releasing within 24 hours, most seem to be 48. Good luck

Just an FYI, if the pediatrician you choose does not have privileges at the hospital you deliver at, the ped on staff will assess your baby. My Ped is Dr Hogarth at Town Center Pediatrics in Sugarland and my son has been a patient there almost his whole life. We love her but she doesn't have prviledges where I will be delivering our 2nd baby (Women's Hospital). When I delivered my son the on staff ped was great, had no problems.

Talk to you OB about being discharged and what the hospital policy is, I'm sure they will let you know what the minimum timeframe is.

Good luck!

Congrats on the baby! I delivered both of my little ones there and our pediatrician is Dr. Robert Mao. His office is in the same building with the hospital. It is one of the docs that my OB/Gyn recommended and we love him. Hope you have a easy and healthy delivery!
