Hi Ladies! Me and my hubby are here just for a few months while he does an internship and I will be having baby number 2 here (yea..bad timing on my part). I was hoping I could get some recommendations for a Pediatrician. I choose not to immunize and would love an open minded doc who will not pressure me. Any suggestions would be SOOOO appreciated!

What can I do next?

I see you already have a recommendation for Dr. Ben Valdez, we have him as well and just love him. So, I second that recommendation - excellent doctor.

I love Dr. Benjamin Valdez. He is moving, I think this week to Ten Sierra Gate Plaza Ste. 160, Roseville, CA 95678. I work for a large medical group and have 14 years working with doctors in the Sacramento area. I have seen quite a few doctors and have had a lot of experience with staff and I would have to say Dr. Valdez is by far my favorite doctor. I don't know his attitude toward vaccinations, but he seems very "open minded" and he is very supportive of families.

Hi J.-
Give my ped. a call. I live and Roseville & drive to Folsom for him. He was recommended by a midwife & my doula. He is pro vax but on my first visit I told him we weren't immunizing, my son is now 2-1/2 and he has never mentioned since and I have another coming in June. He's a gentle soul & good with the little ones. They are a great small staff office kind of old school, feels homey to us, I'm sure he'd take you. He is on the Orangevale, Folsom border. Here's his info:

Dr Peter Wang in Carmichael.
He's a Neonatologist first.. Listens, takes time. I haven't delayed Vax's but we've discussed it and he's very open to it!

My pediatrician is not currently accepting new patients but I've seen one his partners who I liked and who is accepting new patients. I can't speak to his attitude towards vaccinations but you can ask him.

I have a few recommendations...Dr. Oberholtzer, he was the pediatrician that looked my daughter over while we were still in the hospital. He was very laid back and while I don't know his opinion on vaccines, he stikes me as the kind that would not pressure you into anything. He in Sacramento. We live in Folsom and go to Dr. Lugo and while we vaccinated our daughter he was recommended to me by doula who didn't vaccinate her kids and he repected her choice. (BTW he is a family doctor) and before Dr. Lugo we went to Dr. Mo in Davis and she was great, as is Dr. Siemens is also in her practice, again both MDs our family doctors. Also, if your insurance covers it you would probably really like delivering at Sutter Davis Hospital. While there are OBs there you can opt for a midwife and they are great!!! I can't say enough good things about them. I was able to walk around during labor, I wasn't attached to any monitoring machines, there is a birthing tub, and there is no routine pitocin given after delivery. I drove 40 minutes to the hospital b/c it is such a great place. Good Luck!!!

Sorry, I don't have a recommendation but I can tell you who NOT to go to. Stay away from Dr. Greenwood in Roseville or anyone at that facility. My son has a hernia, we went in for his new patient check up and told the doctor about the hernia. He looked at it and "Yep, that's a big hernia all right."
Then he left and went to another patient, we were left with no answers or referrals. I asked at the front desk as was told, "Well, he didn't write anything on the chart except that he has a hernia. If he's going to refer you to someone we'll contact you." That on top of the outdated equipment and non-friendly staff has me looking for a new pediatrician as well.

My kids see Dr. Terrance Chang. He is on Sierra College/Douglas Blvd. He and his NP, Nancy are fantastic. The whole staff is wonderful. They know me and my children by name and it is so welcoming and friendly to be greeted that way. He is also an allergy/asthma specialist. They don't force their medical opinions and allow me the freedom choose what I want for my kids, giving me alternatives other than simply writing a prescription to treat them. ###-###-####. I would highly reccomend him, though I don't know if he is accepting new patients. I am sure if you explained your temporary situation it wouldn't be an issue. He came to the hospital when both my kids were born (he stopped by on his way to the airport leaving for vacation) just to check in on us. Love that! Also, I stopped my kids vaccinations before the MMR and I have had no issues with being forced to continue.

Good Luck!
