We moved to Tyler, TX a few months ago and I am looking for a great pediatrician for my two daughters ages 11 and 1. Would prefer a female doctor, who is thorough, up to date on latest research, but isn't "over the top" on the small stuff. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Welcome to Tyler C.! We have used Trinity Pediatrics for 15 years and we've probably seen every single physician there. Our primary is Tom Hargrove and he has always been detailed and thorough with my girls. He has two daughters and one son of his own, so he understands the needs of all children. Dr. Barrett is great, I'm partial since he also coached my dgtrs soccer team, but he is caring and thorough. As far as female pedis, Dr. Starr is fantastic, when my youngest had a raging rash as an infant, she had a pharmacy mix a special paste that cleared it right up. I've only had one experience with Dr. Wick and I wasn't impressed, but it could have just been a bad day.

I agree with the other post about the caring nurses at Trinity Pediatric, and consider the employee retention rate, they must be caring to each other as well. Good luck!

Dr. Carolyn McRae. She is with ETMC first physicians off of 5th and Beckham. She is awesome.

There are several female doctors at Trinity Mother Francis on Turtle Creek. I use Dr. Wick (female) and she is fine. She doesn't do anything that would make me want to change doctors and she is very thorough. She has twin boys of her own, so she can relate to the questions. But, I personally don't feel like I have a connection with her. However, she works three days at week. Dr. Starr works the other two days of the week and we LOVE her. We use her whenever Dr. Wick is not available. Dr. Starr has 3 kids of her own and also can relate. There is also another female doctor up there and I cannot remember her last name, but her first name is Jennifer. We saw her once when neither of our regular doctors were available and I liked her as well. I don't have any long term experience with her, so I can't comment on long term. I enjoy that clinic though, the nurses are very nice and long term. You can build relationships there and they know your children. My son has asthma and one of the nurses seriously went out of her way to get a flu shot for my son a couple of years ago when the shots were seriously scarce. Also, the physician's assitant is female and we use her quite a bit for those "quick" things.

In case you are interested, The Whitehouse Pharmacy is an awesome pharmacy. You never have to wait and they are very attentive (unlike Brookshires or Walmart).

Also, just a little more information, my daughter is also 1 and Dr. Wick has been very thorough at the well visits. She always checks for the milestones. Further, my son had a lot of problems when he was younger and we moved a couple of times before he was 2. We started with Dr. Wick when he was 18 months old and she is the ONLY doctor that actually listened to me when I said something was "off" with him. It turns out he had sensory integration disorder and had to have physical therapy and occupational therapy. I appreciate Dr. Wick because she was the only doctor (of 3 others) that actually listened to me and was willing to order the evaluations. So, that is the main reason that I don't change doctors. Even though I don't feel a connection with her, she does a great job.

Good luck!
L.

If you really prefer a female pediatrician, Dr. Melton is very good. Personally, we use Dr. Jeff Smith. I love him. His bedside manner with the kids is great. We have been using him for 12 years and have three children. I understand with the daughters, though. Anyway, Dr. Melton is very good as well and I have many friends who use her. Welcome to Tyler.
