Anyone ever heard of " PALSUM SALVE " (spelling?)
My Grandmother used this on a rash my Brother had ages ago (30 or so years ago and worked great) and I have been trying to find it with no luck.
thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for taking the time to help!
I showed them all to my Mother and she is pretty sure it was "Balsum".
I just got some buttpaste,(LOL, I love saying that), salve to use, same main ingredients.
We always cracked jokes about it when we saw it in the store...who knew?!
You did, thanks!

I'm willing to bet that what your grandmother used was an old herbal remedy that lots of people swore by--Balsam salve. Google it and you will find lots of references to it, along with resources. You may also be able to find it by contacting a local herbalist.

I think you're looking for the old-fashioned skin remedy called Balsam Salve, made from Poplar buds, and also known as Balm of Gilead. You can purchase what someone else recomended, the Beaudreux Butt Paste, which also contains zinc oxide and is great. Or, you can find some regular salve here: http://www.localharvest.org/store/item.jsp?id=3123

I hope this helps. Balsam salve is one of the best old-fashioned remedies I know.

There are balsam salves - one new on is on the market that called - don't laugh - Butt Paste. It was originally market for diaper rash, but I have found that it works on so many different things such as certain rashes, hemoroids and more. There is also a gel like salve that my parents use - I'm not sure the name but I will e-mail my parents and get back to you that works on everything from burns, to rashes to cuts.
