I just moved into a house that has green painted kitchen countertops. I hate the color. Right now I do not have the money to replace them. My question is... have any of you ever painted countertops before? If so what kind of paint did you all use? I figured since they are painted already it wouldnt hurt to paint over them. This is temporary intill I have the money to replace them. THANKS!!!

What can I do next?

I had a friend who painted the old counter tops in her kitchen and it turned out horrible. ...which you probably did not want to hear. I am not sure if there was another type of paint she could have used??? I do know that you can get your counter tops resurfaced.....I believe it's like having someone actually spray them to get a completely different finish....like granite. I am under the impression it is not all that expensive. Another friend got hers resurfaced for approx. $200.

Hello! I didn't know you could even paint countertops, until I saw a "QuickFix Idea" on HGTV about how to paint countertops in bathrooms...so I went to www.hgtv.com, did a search in their search bar for painting countertops, and it returned 427 matches for articles and videos about how to do that. Good luck!

I would clean them with TSP-good and cheap. Next, I would paint them with a primer and then put on your top coat. What fun! You could really go wild with that! It's like eating coke and pizza on the shag carpet before you change it out! Such freedom to spill!

The resurfacing technique would be a good solution. Try http://www.permaglaze.com or http://www.miraclemethod.com.
Another idea is to put down new laminate over the green paint. The inexpensive laminate sheets can be found at Lowes or Home Depot, and they just glue down.
