I'm afraid due to our insurance we've had to change hosptials for my delivery (I'll be having another c-section). I've had AMAZING experiences with Good Shepherd in Barrington and so am bummed to be having to go elsewhere. I have a friend who had a REALLY bad experience at Northern IL Medical Center in McHenry when she delivered her son - but she also had some unusual complications (intestinal issues, not related to pregnancy). PLEASE tell me what you think of this hospital - specifically if you've had your child there - my friend has me paranoid!!! (any experience whether OB related or not). I do have the option of changing OB's to find someone who can deliver at Sherman Hospital - would you suggest Sherman instead of Northern IL in McHenry?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ladies - THANK YOU SO MUCH! You have really calmed my fears. This site is so wonderful. I am so thankful I asked and you all responded so quickly - so is my husband! :)

I'll be sure to let you know how things go - thanks again!

UPDATE: We had Ana on 1/29/07 and this hospital had THE MOST AMAZING nursing staff I have ever encountered! They were kind, patient, attentive, understanding, empathetic, personable - just all around wonderful. At one point (after some serious nausea due to pain meds) one of the nurses sat on my bed and asked me to help her help me find a way to make my nausea stop - we went through meds I'd taken in the past, what worked, what didn't, etc. and came up with a plan together to find a drug for my c-section pain that would work and not cause me such severe nausea. She then called my OB and my new meds were in me ASAP and I was feeling a ton better. I can't say enough wonderful things about the OB floor of this hospital!

Erin,

I had my third child at NIMC and loved it. The OB nurses were absolutely WONDERFUL! My OB's (Dr. Salus and Dr. Perlis) were the BEST! NIMC is definitely my hospital of choice.

Hi Erin,
I delivered at NIMC last March, being new to the area and coming here being already 6 months pregnant I was very nervous on the doctor and hospital I chose (we found my o.b. online, and all know how that could've turned out)! Truly I couldn't have been happier!!!! Dr. Howey is the best, with GREAT bedside mannor and professionalism and comfort! She told me to choose from Woodstock or NIMC, but pushed me to go with NIMC. When my son came everyone was so wonderful! The best thing about NIMC was that it is small and cozy, all the nurses know you by the time you deliver and are there for you for the days to come!
Congratulations!
Z.

There are some reviews on Sherman Hospital, including my own, located on this thread: http://www.mamasource.com/request/16251159145669984257 that you might want to check out.

Good luck! :-)

NIMC was wonderful! I had a complicated pregnancy (gestational diabetes etc.) and my c-section went well. My OB: George Stankevych and his team were so friendly, helpful, very knowledgeable! The nurses on the floor for the entire 4 days I was there, took the time to explain things and were there when you needed them. I absolutely loved it there. So much I didn't want to go home :)

I hope that helps. Please feel free to email me with anymore questions.

I almost had to switch hospitals, but will still be going to GS.
I have not ever delivered at NIMC, but I have heard good things from other mothers who have. They seemed very satisfied that they were well taken care of. A few said they like it better than GS, even though there is no PP program.

I use to see Dr. Howie, briefly, before she went on her own. Nice doctor from what I remember.

Best of Luck!

I delivered my 2nd and 3rd sons at NIMC. I loved it! They don't offer the Pampered Pregnany stuff like Good Shepard does, but the doctors and nurses were great =)
My OB is Dr. Mary Riggs, she is excellent! I have also had Dr. Howey assisting at 1 birth, and Dr. Whittman at another, they are also both great doctors!
Personally, I would chose NIMC over Sherman, that hospital seems to be hit or miss....
Good Luck with your decision, and congrats on the pregnancy!
