OK Hubby Got the Job in KC - Need Help Again - Revised Request with Address

Congratulations to your husband! My best friend's hubby works at H&R Block at the headquarters too and loves it.

If he's looking for a place to live for four months until you all join him, I recommend looking in Quality Hill downtown. There are also lots of condos going in downtown that are awesome, some of them furnished. The apartments in Quality Hill are a variety of rehabbed old buildings and new structures done in the late 80's and 90's and are really nice and affordable. He could walk to work and not have to deal with the rush hour traffic! I lived down there when I first moved to Kansas City and really loved it! Plenty of places to go eat and you're central to everything.

When you are ready to move to Kansas City with the children, I would recommend the western Shawnee area. We've been out here for five years and love it. The school is wonderful and the area has more of a small town feel, but with a quick commute in on I-70. While I like Lee's Summit and the Blue Springs area, the commute would be a nightmare every day. Independence is an older part of town and I wouldn't recommend the school district there.

The address is actually not that close to Arrowhead. If I had to commute to downtown, which you will, I would live in Kansas in the Western Shawnee- DeSoto schools The drive will be 20-25 minutes and the schools are really good. Or in the Shawnee Mission area-Mission, Fairway, Prarie Village-all within 20 and Shawnee Mission Schools.
If I had to live on the Missouri side, I would look into Liberty or Lee's Summit over Independence- I like their school systems better and think they will have more variety for young families in housing,thinsg to do, shopping etc.

Which H&R Block location will he be employed? Independence is certainly not bad and reasonably priced, but he may be able to find just as good of a deal closer to his office if he is more central to the city or downtown. KC is very spread out and there are studios/extended stay hotel literally everywhere. If you can tell us where the office is located, maybe we can hone in on one area - even one area of Independence - for him and really narrow his choices so he has an easier decision. KC is full of friendly people. I hope he enjoys his temporary stay and we get to welcome your whole family here!

Just saw you added location. H&R Block headquarters IS at 13th and Main in downtown Kansas City, but that is about a good twenty minute drive from Arrowhead Stadium.

congratulations to hubs on the new job. i know of a beautful home with a child friendly large yard and wrap around porch that will be on sale sometime in jan hint hint haha. Oh, you were asking about Baptist Churches also, the gymnastics school that i take my little one to has a liberal arts style (they include dance, fitness and 'gymnastics" to their education curriculum) connected to a Baptist Church on Englewood Road. For extended stays, thats tougher, i know they have some, but it always seems to be off the highways in the more industrial areas. Studio apartments might be easier to find in nicer areas.

hi my name is W. i have four children 2 of which attend the independence school district my oldest son is 15 and attends truman high school also where my husband went. my 6n year old attends luff elementary and i love all the techers there. the school district is very nice and i love all the teachers i have met so far. we live close to the i-70 40 hwy area and 23rd street/ crysler they are older homes, but a nice area for our kids to play and have friends.

I live in Kansas city and I can tell you this much if you think you will be there for awhile then look at Lee Summit, it is very close to Independence and has a top rated school district. Hope this helps,

I would agree with Leann and Connie about Lee's Summit. My hubby was raised here and I moved here when we got married. The school system is the main reason we stayed, and it is a nice area -- close enough to everything, not too metropolitan and not too small townish. We have plenty of activities, shopping, eating establishments and real estate is great. Lee's Summit is growing by leaps and bounds too.

On another note, my husband works downtown also and started riding the bus -- saves tons of $$ and gas!
