Hi Moms and Dads !

Just wondering if anyone knows of a good doctor in or around the orland park area who is happy to NOT give vaccinations? I have previously vaccinated but after a series of health issues in my 9 month old have decided for us it's best not to vaccinate. Please do not respond with mean and criticizing comments. I have done a lot of research and I believe this is what's best for our family :)

What can I do next?

Home first in Naperville. Have you considered partial vaccination with an alternate schedule? I just did the basics and only one shot at a time and my kids are fine, no reactions.

If your 9 month old has health issues that contraindicate vaccination, then any decent pediatrician will use that information in coming to a decision of whether it is better to vaccinate or not. And most peds will agree to an alternate vaccination schedule, although they might try to educate you as to the risks first.

If the health issues do not contraindicate vaccinations (or some vaccinations) then you are asking us to not criticize you for deciding to forgo your doctor's medical education and experience and all of the vast amount of medical research out there in lieu of internet rumors and scare tactics. I, obviously, find myself incapable of doing this.

And it's not a decision that affects only your family, it affects your community as well.

You need to talk to your doctor or find a doctor that has a flexible vaccination schedule. Health issues and vaccines are two separate issues. And if, for some reason, there is a connection, a medical professional is needed to find out why and deal with it. Making a decision on your own without medical/scientific facts is not a safe way to go for your child. Do not assume a connection between the vaccines and your childs health, investigate it. You could be missing something important by assuming something else.

Mother's intuition is important!! There are too many vaccines too soon. If you talk to doctors privately, many will tell you that its ok to space them out or wait on so many of them. A well respected neurologist told me this. So just call around, explain your situation and see if they will work with you. My doctor doesn't agree with our decision to suspend but he respects it.

I don't know of anyone in your area, but I just wanted to say their are good doctors who will work with you. Sometimes it takes time to find them. I do not vaccinate my kids and when we lived in CA, we used Dr. Sears. Now that we are in VA, I have been lucky enough to find an amazing dr. for my kids who does not push vaccines on me. She knows my opinion and she knows I have done my research and she knows our past experience with some vaccinations. She will ask me with a smile if I have changed my mind, but I always say no with a smile back and she says "ok". Both of my kids have had some really bad reactions and we were told not to finish certain ones by their dr.
So, I just wanted to give you some support and encouragement to keep looking and you will find the right dr for you.

Janine G - hop on a flight and head on over to Home First. You will have no arguments there! Dr. Eisenstein has dedicated his practice to educating before vaccinating.

You can also look on Dr. Sears site and look under "Vaccine Friendly Doctors".

I have to laugh at those that say choosing not to vaccinate endangers you, your child or society...people if you beleive in vaccines and your kids are vaccinated, you have nothing to worry about right???? If you fear an unvaccinated child you must not truly beleive in the almighty vaccines. Let's be rational...fear is very irrational.

C. - Home First has a few locations - I think one of them should be close enough to you. I have to drive a bit but it's worth it to have my child cared for outside of the medical business.

All the Best!

You are not going to find one that won't recommend them. All doctors are trained to believe that vaccinations are the best things ever created. If you find one that won't push vax's on you I would be willing to fly out to IL just for a well check! Every year I have to argue with my ped about why I don't want to vax me (when I am pregnant) or my kiddos. I honestly have to argue with her. It's crazy. I have searched and asked for recommendations but I just don't think doctors who don't push vaccinations exist. It's in their DNA.

You might want to check with Dr. Greg Ozark (Med-Peds) from Loyola's Burr Ridge clinic (right off of I-55 & County Line Rd). We went to him for years until our insurance required us to go elsewhere. I seem to recall him mentioning that he does work with parents who don't vaccinate their kids, but I am not 100% certain if that is so. It'd be worth calling to ask the nurse if they have a policy on it.

As you research, also keep in mind that the doctor needs to be willing to fill out your school forms indicating it's a health risk for your child. Schools will not allow your children to attend unless you to vaccinate.

Last, While there is plenty of scientific/medical evidence (much of it funded by big parma who make millions on vaccines) that vaccinations are good for a majority of the population, there is VERY LITTLE research to help us understand why it is dangerous for a portion of our population. Why certain children have reactions. No one seems to be looking for that link.

If you have not had a child who had a severe reaction to a vaccine you have NO IDEA how scary it is. So please don't criticize.

I have the same question for Bloomington/Normal, but can't help with doctors in Orland Park.

I can tell you that it is legal to send your child to school without vaccines (medical or religious reasons are valid in IL), most schools have the forms on hand, just need to ask when the time comes.

I can also tell you that pediatricians in specific do have a quota of vaccines they're required (by law I think) to give to kids. Hence why many are super Pro Vaccine. Family Doctors don't have that quota they're expected to meet though.

As I was skimming through, I would like to say thank you to the person who stated the obvious. Parents of vaccinated children who fear the non-vaccinated must not trust the vaccines. Since in essence it is the non-vaccinated who should be at greater risk if vaccines do their job.

Stand your ground, but don't be pushy about it. The 'somewhat' reasonable doctors are more likely to work with you without fighting if you let them give their speech and you simply tell them that right now is not the right time for vaccines to be given to your child. If they think they have a chance to change your mind for the future, most tend to react better.

Our Doctor is very pro vaccine and against not vaccinating. He was not HAPPY to not vaccintate my younger two (I had good reason as well). But it wasn't his call. Don't worry how your doctor feels, just do what you know you need to do.
