New to NM Looking for Pediatrician

Before we moved to Rio Rancho and switched peds, we saw Dr Jane Kim-Hoffman at Northside Pediatrics. She is wonderful! She is great with the kids, great with the parents and tended to error on the side of caution rather than always taking the "wait and see" approach. She has children her self which I think makes a difference. Northside is a Presbyterian office, thus Pres insurance and Pres as a hospital.

If you haven't yet found a good pediatrician, I have the two of the best in town:

Dr Stanley Handmaker at Children's Hospital on Lomas. He devotes his practice to kids with medical disabilities. My son has CHARGE Syndrome so that is how I found him. I love him and he gives you his personal office phone number, so whenever I need him, I call his number and he, personally, calls me back that day. He also schedules all his own appts. It's the closest thing to house calls in the medical field today!

Another great peditrician is Junger Upplegger on Mongomery NE, near the Women's Hospital. I take my other kids there because he is a general ped. I also love his partner, Carolyn Thomas. Her husband is a urologist.

how old is your son? i think that our pediatrician is the best one around! his name is alwyn koil and he is located on montgomery and wyoming in the NM pediatrics group (the same one that staffs the after hours pediatric clinic). dr. koil is patient and understanding and very nice and knowledgable. the office has electronic medical records so that all of your infomation is easily available. the clinic has urgent care appointments open every day so that if your child is sick, you can often be seen by YOUR doctor that day. also, because of the after hours pediatric staffing, if there is an urgent need or an emergency, you can be seen in the clinic until 11 pm! what a great thing! they can do stitches and IVs and save you a trip to the ER!

We really like Bebe Han -- his phone number is ###-###-####. He's an old-time doctor who visits his patients twice a day in the hospital and basically has a solo practice with a physician's assistant. One of our daughters had developmental delay and severe acid reflux and we worked through all of that with him.

We think he's wonderful.

Also of note, Bebe has two "normal children" and two tremendously "mentally retarded" children -- so his overview is unlike any other physician's.

After hours pediactrics! the same as NM Pediactrics. All the pediatrician's there are wonderful; and if you're a working parent or just need someone after reg business hours they're there-no more urgent care.

I also go to After Hours Pediatrics. Hours are wonderful - I think they're open until 11 & open on Sundays too. Everyone I've seen is good, but I especially like Dr. David Allison. McCollum is really good too. He is a Nurse & does mainly after hours, but I saw him as my "doctor" for the first 2 yrs of my daughters life & she was my 1st child. I totally trust BOTH of them.
