My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant with our 2nd baby for almost a year. I had a miscarraige in August and things have not been going well since. I had an infection which lasted over a month, now they have found a cyst on one of my ovaries and I am in a lot of pain due to endmetriosis. the solution from my doctor is pain pills until I get pregnant, which don't really work. I was thinking of going back on the birth control shot for a few months to calm things down a bit, but I don't know what to do anymore.

What can I do next?

What ever you do, do NOT get on depot! It is a horrible form of birth control and has made it VERY hard for my husband and I to get pregnant. The last thing it will do is straighten anything out. It will make it much MUCH worse. I am sorry to be so harsh but I am still very angry with my old doctor for not telling me the dangers of the depo.

Don't get on the shot. After just one shot of birth control it can take a full year for it to be out of your system and before you can get pregnant. If you want to get on something for a while talk to your dr about a low dosage birth control.

M.,
Hello, I had problems with endometriosis as well. My dr put me into mentapause for six months with two shots three months apart That helped me with for a bit and that my help you to get pregnant. If you want to do pain management until you get pregnant again I used Premisen PMS (spelling may be off) it was the only thing that worked for me I used to pass out and turn pure white from the pain and cysts that I had. I also cut back on any caffeine, chocolate, and what ever you notice that increases the pain. something that will put pressur on your belly and back will help with the pain like a tummy tucker. I had problems since I was 16 with it and now have three wonderful children. One more thing I would say from someone that has been there is DON'T use Tampons they make it worse us only pads I know some women that don't like them but tampons will build the pressur that is felt and could make your pain worse. I hope this helps if you want to chat about more ways to controll some of the pain you can e-mail me at ____@____.com or IM me at tallt932000 on Yahoo messanger. I hope this will help you. sorry so long.

I also have had a history similar to yours... the endo, cyst, etc. Think hard and long of what you really want and stick with it. I would not suggest a shot as compared to a few months of a low dose of birth control pills. One of things that I found was truly to relax. We were told that it was so bad that our chances of having more children (after our first) was slim to none. I am happy to say that we are expecting our third in May. Hang in there. It is a long and hard road!! They say the best thing for endometriosis is pregnancy, so don't do anything to hold that process up if you want another. Good luck and it is tough. If you want to vent to know more, feel free to contact me...

Do not get the depo shot if you want to get pregnant. It can take a year for your body to return to normal after that. I have had very heavy very painful periods my whole life, and recently found out I have PCOS, so I feel your pain, literally. You can use naproxen (aleve), exercise, a heating pad, and honestly even a girdle helps with the pain. If you are trying to get pregnant, I highly recommend keeping away from the birth control.

Did you say birth control shot as in Depro Provera?? Don't go back on that if you're wanting control over when you have your kids. Others may not have issues with this, but, I have been on it and it messed things up badly for me. My first time getting pregnant, it was one case of a broken condom, we were not trying in any way, but apparently no issues with the reproductive system for us. Between my first two kids, I used the pill, no problems conceiving. Between my second and third, I tried the shot, went off it after two cycles because the doctor felt it was causing weight gain. After another six months, we started trying to get pregnant. I got pregnant after trying for eight months and lost it in an early miscarriage. We tried again for three months, then I finally got pregnant. After Faith was born, we used the shot one cycle, then quit. We used no protection for over two years and did not get pregnant. I did get pregnant again, went on the shot afterwards, again, took two years after stopping to get pregnant. I'm done having children, now, but my doctor said no more shot for me because it assisted me with a 36 pound weight gain in six weeks. Instead, he has me using the nuvaring and no other birth control has ever treated me better. After having issues trying to get pregnant after the shot, I heard from many girlfriends that this caused the same issues for them, one to two years of trying without success. So, talk to your doctor and ask if the shot could be the culprit in delaying conception, talk to other women and ask their experiences. I'd go with a form of birth control that does not mess with periods, in my opinion it gives you more control. I wish you well. I know how helpless it can feel.

Hi M.! Happy Holidays! I have a friend that had endometriosis and she had some great results with natural products. These products will not interefere with being pregnant or try to conceive; in fact they may help your chances conceiving. If you would like her e-mail, please let me know.

*hugs* Good luck!

Hi. A website I really like is fertilityfriend.com. You can do charting online, has lots of info, and also message boards, which are the best. There are always lots of women on there who can relate and/or been through similar situations. There are also boards for being a mommy. You have to pay now for the message boards and premium charting services, though. I was there all the time while trying to conceive and up until they started charging to maintain their website. It's about $45 per year, but you can still have access to basic charting and info about ttc without paying. Best of luck to you and your family.

I'm so sorry to hear of your struggles to get pregnant...I have also dealt with all kinds of fertility issues, as well as a m/c so I understand what a terrible time you must be going through. I have not had the ovarian cysts, but a girlfriend has had a lot of problems with them. She did go back on birth control to help reduce the cyst down. I think that may be something to consider, because if the cyst doesn't go away, there is the risk of it bursting (happened to my girlfriend and she lost an ovary). Anyway...I hope you start feeling better soon and have good news to share with us soon too :)

I know exactly how you feel. I do not about the cyst situation but we had the same problem with the endometreosis as well. We tried for 3 years to have a nother child, I would have sever menstral cycles very painful and found out it was endometreosis they put me into medipause for 6 months (to stop estragen) then had lazer sergury to zap the spots that were still bleeding. After that and I healed we became pregnant right away. The endometrosis was not allowing us to get pregnant it was that bad. I am kinda worried about you being on the pain meds. and trying to get pregnant, sometimes those have side effects for the fetus if you were to become pregnant before you realize it and are still taking them. I would get another opinion maybe keep on the birthcontrol because that helps shrink the endometreosis, after the birth of my son mine just came back (7 yrs later) so my doc. has me on a shot that stops my periods and it works, it was either that or a historectomy. I wish you all the luck in the world. Get another opinion and maybe get the cyst out and then let things calm down you will be surprised. It will happen. Good Luck.

M.,
Have you ever had a laparoscopy to diagnose the Endo? I had one almost 3 years ago after suspecting Endo, and the doctor not only lasered the endometrial tissue, but he also checked my fallopian tubes to make sure they were clear. It's a minimally invasive procedure and I recovered over a long weekend. Having it helped us to know what the extent of the disease was and if it was affecting anything. I conceived my son after having it done, and have not had a lot of pain since.

I also have endomitriosis and just had my second son 2 months ago. I didn't think I would be able to have children. Have you had laproscopic surgery? I have multiple times and it helps so much. It also increases your fertility rate by like 75% for the first like 9 months afterwards.

With my endometriosis I learned that some natural ways to control the pain, like excercize, helped control the pain with Aleve and I was able to get pregnant.
Working out helped me feel better all around.. Just walking every day might be enough.. or atleast something to try!
